I once had a sewing business, I understand that need, what did was get the ones that hang on the door and fold up flat against the door and out of the way. I had one conviently located in the sewing room and one in the laundry room. Since they are out of the way and don't require dragging out and hauling around it is a big win. They have held up great through the moves, got rid of all the other irioning boards. different models some have iron holder and place to hang clothes. I have a very heavy duty ironing board. It sits on a plush carpet in my sewing room - and does not wobble even on the thick carpet. I can push down on it with all my strength without it budging at all. Unfortunately, it does not have any markings on it at all! I bought it on clearance at a specialty store. I paid $60.00 on clearance. It is very heavy, but I leave it up at all times since I use it multiple times per week (cotton laundry, sewing, quilting). I did see one like it on Amazon, I attached a link. As you will see, boards like this are very expensive. I think mine is a Rowenta, but I can't really remember since I bought it about 7 years ago. I do love the iron holder on the end, and I always use the shelf to hold stuff I am "working on". In other words, projects that I have not had time to finish. I would also recommend getting a really good pad for your board, it makes ironing easier. I would hope a board like this Rowenta one would come with a heavy duty cotton pad, but you cannot be sure these days. I use a triple thick, all cotton pad under a heavy duty cotton cover (I have a non-stick cover to use fuzeables so I don't ruin my good cover), It took me almost a month to find these when I needed to replace the originals. How thick are the furring strips? You may need to find the studs and use long enough screws to reach well into them, and make sure they are large enough (diameter) screws for the weight also. Another alternative is to open up the drywall, then the old wall, and install blocking between studs. I have a bunch of copper pans on a rack, and it is mounted with 1/4 lag screws well into the studs. It is a half circle so it sticks out about 16 inches and provides a lot of leverage, despite having an angled brace on the top. You will not have as much leverage hanging the pans almost flat to the wall, but the load is still very high when it gets to a few screws into studs.

Caryn, I would agree with Luvs....find out first instead of regret later. You might also try taking a really good picture of the board and the label and sending it via email to any antique shop that has an online address or just take the photo to any antique shops in your area. Couldn't hurt. Somewhere in the back of my mind I recall seeing a really great idea of how to use the ironing board without doing any damage to it, I will keep it in my mind and hope it click soon. Have you just tried googling antique ironing boards, if you do the visual or pictures, you should come up with lots of pictures. Belle
