Fleabane! That's what we call this pesky weed over here in Australia. I thought I recognised its mugshot. (Good close-up, sandradee.) It grows into the most eeeenorrrmous monster if it is well watered and not weeded out. There is one other way to kill it. I experimented on it once. Cut it underneath its crown, immediately above where its roots emerge. It will not grow back from its roots if its crown has been cut off. I am referring to the crown that is under the soil or at soil level, not the top of the plant which is also known as the crown. When young, it is easily removed if you don't have a gazillion. As it gets bigger, it gets very determined to stay, gets very strong, grows very tall... has babies. It will then resist all your efforts unless you bring in a tractor. Mowing might be the answer but there is POSSIBLY the possibility that it will then branch, and keep growing, and get stronger. Maybe you could try a couple of different methods and report back. Main thing is to not let it go to seed. Good luck.

The first couple photos look like rogue stems from the shrub around them, the others look like privet. Yank the privet unless you want a 20' tall shrub that will grow super fast and tall even if you cut it back constantly. Follow the other stems down and peek under the shrub to see if I'm right or not. Cut back to the mass of the shrub or pull depending on what it is.

Once you get rid of the weeds, hose down the pavers with as strong a stream of water as you can. Make sure to get as much stuff from out between the pavers as possible, moss, weeds, gunk, goop, dirt. Next, get polymeric sand. Here is an example of one from THD. There are other brands out there. Follow the directions on the bag, box, container. Essentially, you pour it out, sweep it in (getting as much into the joints as possible) and then once the joints are full. Spray it with water. The water reacts with the polymeric sand to great what is basically grout, but it is permeable to water. This will help prevent weeds from growing for a long time, plus it weill make your pavers/patio look better. Good luck, Dan

Kill existing weeds with glyphosate (Round-Up) and use Preen in the bed at the same time to minimize sprouting seeds. The Preen must be applied on a periodic schedule so be sure to set the re-apply date on your calendar. Or else, you'll wonder in some time why it didn't work like people promised. It usually takes a little time (2 or 3 applications over time) to get good control, so keep up with it. And it does not stop everything, so you'll need to hand pull anything the comes, before it goes to seed and refreshes the weed cycle.
