I have an Epson V200 scanner. It is a flatbed scanner that can also slide film and slides. I paid around $80 for it. I bought this over a year ago. I am not sure of the availabilty of this certain model, as it has been discontinued, - other than eBay or Amazon. I can scan up to 4 slides at once. You load the slide tray and press scan. It puts each slide into a seperate file. You can specify where you want them saved. It is quite simple to use and I have been extremely happy with the results. It will scan at up to 4800 dpi. I generally scan my slides at a resolution of 600 dpi - and can get fantasic 4x6 prints. If you were looking to make poster size prints, you would want to up your dpi. The higher the dpi - the larger the file and the longer it takes to scan. If you do not have a lot of "horsepower" in your computer, scanning at really high dpi will take a long time. Scanning dpi and printing dpi are two entirely different things. You can google and research this further if you want. This is a slide from the early 1950's, scanned at 600 dpi. You can correct dust, backlighting, etc. I think HP has a flatbed scanner that can scan 16 slides at a time..this would be sweet if you are looking at a large number of slides. To simplify things for you I have copied a fix that I found at Kellys Korner which is a genuine and highly regarded source of tips and fixes for all sorts of problems. Number 255 on the right hand side of the page is labelled "My Documents Folder Opens Upon Boot (for C:\)" and gives the code that I have copied below. It is a Registry Patch that simply puts the correct value back where it belongs. Open Notepad on your computer then copy and paste the text into it and save the file as USERINIT.REG - that's USERINIT dot REG Now double click it and answer yes to the import prompt. Incidentally, REG files can be viewed in Notepad by right clicking on the file and selecting Edit. Followed this post with interest since I have wanted one of these scanners ever since I found out about them. On Jan 2, I purchased the one from HSN that scans both JPEG and PDF, after some research that model is only available at HSN. Anyway, I am pretty pleased with it. I scanned loose paper, page out of a book, a pattern (I sew), a page out of a magazine, and a photo. The scans to PDF are better than my old flat bed and much quicker. I have only done a couple of pictures and was not that happy with it, but my main focus was to scan my files and get rid of paper clutter. I think it will be perfect for that. There is a slight learning curve, for example start at the top not bottom of your page or the scan will be upside down. With a bit of practice, I was able to drag it at the proper speed and without movement to get a perfect scan. You can still read it but it has "waves" in it if you hesitate or wiggle the wand. Super easy to transfer to computer. No software involved. Just hook up with USB and it acts as a flash drive, review what you scanned, cut and paste to where you want it on your hard drive. Now if the product doesn't break down, I will be happy with my purchase. Hope this helps you if you are thinking about getting one of these scanners. Murphy
