Recommend magnifying glass please

Wow; your pics are fantastic-thank you to those who share them-aside from purchasing an expensive camera-can anyone recommend type, strength of magnifying glass for gardening use? I want to see these #*&@ critters! (my old magnifying glass just doesn't do it; my digital camera blurs.)

I just purchased two sets on e-bay for $10.99 included shipping. These are used in the jewely trade, one pair had two lens 10x and 20x ;the other is a single lens 30x ; you can see the hair on a spider mites chin with these. Hope this help you

Do you have a scanner for copying documents and/or pictures?

You might want to put a few aphids on a small piece of paper and scan JUST that piece of paper at the highest resolution. You may be pleased at what you can see.

Other wise a 20x for mite indentication for spider mites and their size range. A 30x is hard to use because of the optics of the thing.

The brand is called Reliabilt. It is called white laminated glass door. Sometimes the special order desk does not know where to order it so look through the reliabilt book and find the white laminated door. we ordered the 24x80 door and trimmed an inch in height and about 1/2" in width. The door is beautiful. They can add the hinge cutouts for additional price. You will have to call the manufacturer to see if taking out 1" on both ends would be okay. It is hard to tell the construction technique ( you dont want to cut off too much of the wood framing which is hidden). I am really happy with the quality and privacy of the door. I think we paid less than $250 for it.

Cerama Bryte which I bought at Home Depot did a great job cleaning the black glass cooktop that was here when we bought the house. I thought I'd never be able to get it clean (the previous owners didn't have the word "clean" in their vocabulary) but the Cerama Bryte got the cooktop looking like new after about six cleanings. Now I use it weekly, or more often, and am very pleased. I got it at Home Depot, 28oz. for about $7, but have used it for a year and still have about 2/3 of a bottle left.

Try our Brilliant White. I took this picture with my cell phone in our warehouse. The White is "Brilliant" White made with a Virgin Glass to take the Green tint out. That is how you get white glass. $9.95 a Square Foot and Free Shipping Valid (thru March 2016). You can see it here in 3x6" and the 4x12" we also have that lovely dome liner you see in stock. That is the annoying thing for me, people never carry glass trims. I like trims. But this was taken with an 4 year old iPhone inside a warehouse. What make white glass white? All glass has iron particles in the colors it is largely irrelevant, but in the white you need to remove as much as you can. The create a pure white, or virgin white or brilliant white glass tile.

Thank you for suggestions; my scanner result not great but still neat.Going to ebay to shop now. Interestingly,I placed a rose bud in a clear glass vase and 2 hours later the waxy strands and little varmits were more visible due to magnifying effects of water/glass. Also 6 hrs later when I looked at bud with my poor magnifier even I could make out the aphids accumulating along the rose top edge-like a bunch of sailors waiting for rescue from a sinking ship. Ha. Makes me think twice about who I would give a bouquet of flowers to. Thanks for your help.

You can get rid of camera blur by using flash and setting the aperture of the camera so that the flash light dominates.

I have very poor vision, but I can see spider mites and even eggs (just barely) with an inexpensive 6x lens. It has a second lens that raises the power to 13x when you look through both.

You should put the lens next to your eye and move the leaf into focus.

Glad you are doing this-- it's fun and interesting and will make you a better gardener.

Use the google shopping feature and google jewelers loupe triplet 15X. They are around $15 - $20.

Higher magnifications results in a much smaller focal area (that sweet spot in the center of the lens where you see everything clearly focused). I've found 15X to be more than adequate.

A nice extra is a loop on the triplet cover so that you can attach it to a lanyard. These little devils are easily lost, so a lanyard is really helpful.
