Care advice for potted Bromeliad
Comments (5)to Amyg, I'm guessing that your plant is a Guzmania. Most of them like bright light, but not direct sun. Chances are, you won't have to repot your new plant, unless it's top-heavy, or you think that the container is ridiculously small. It won't hurt it to remove it and pot it in a larger pot. Otherwise, just wait 'til the new growths develop from the lower leaves. They can be potted on their own when they get big enough. You probably won't have to worry about that until next year. Most broms have overlapping leaf bases which collect the rain in nature. This is what is referred to as the 'cup'. As a general rule, most broms are happy with water in the cup. They absorb water through the leaves, often as much or more than through the roots! Hope this helps. Paul...See Morewoo hoo! I just discovered this forum!
Comments (16)This year I tried to restrain myself. The current selection, most of it still in the fridge, is: Exotica (sitting next to the computer, just about to bloom) Aphrodite (showing the tips of stalks, on the kitchen counter) Charisma (3) Lemon Lime (2) Pink Diamond (3) Melusine Papilio Picotee (2) In past years I have also loved: Apple Blossom Hercules Green Goddess Nymph Sweet Surrender (the most magnificent flower, but they do eventually bend down, even with stakes, and can look messy towards the end) and others too numerous to name. I also have about forty Ziva paperwhites just waiting for their pebble and water homes. Am always looking for pretty containers for my paperwhites! My amaryllis are all potted in terra cotta, slightly larger pots than are usually recommended. My addiction to this flower is sick, sick, sick, and I love it!...See MoreIdeas for table centerpiece?
Comments (6)I've always done that with whatever kind of container, basket, or bowl I can unearth from the basement - occasionally have even used the clear plastic containers baked goods come in. When I buy my wreaths from the farmers market, they'll usually give me an assortment of their evergreen trimmings; if I need to augment that, I have a variety of yews, spruce, junipers, mugos etc. in my own yard. A block of floral foam and a new supply of candles from a craft store and I'm good to go. The floral foam holds a lot of water, so a live arrangement will generally hold its needles until I'm tired of looking at it sometime around mid-January. If you've ever been to, or have seen books on Christmas in Colonial Williamsburg, they do simply stunning extremely simple table decorations with fruit (mainly apples and oranges) and a little greenery....See MoreDinning room table decor
Comments (9)What’s going on in an adjacent room? You can relate your dining room to the hall or living room by repeating a color used there. A pretty bowl, a floral arrangement, a grouping of candles, a green plant? I have a hand painted cachepot with an English ivy in it on mine. Sometimes I have a blue and white porcelain vase with fresh flowers but keeping up with them is a commitment ....See Moresushipup1
