HI Romando. You have a nice collection there. Right now I have two amaryllis. One is called something like:

Baby scarlet? It's a miniature, absolutely gorgeous. The other is Charisma that I got from brent & Becky's sale. I still have to pot it up, it's in my fridge. I'm looking to buy some deep red ones. I'm off to the supermarket today. I've gotten some gorgeous ones fromt grocery store in the past.

Please post some of your pictures, I am new to amaryllis and have no idea of what yours look like.

From last year - my first time with these bulbs:

Lady Jane
Baby Star
Red Peacock
Apple Blossom
All were gorgeous last year, but no signs of growth yet from these, so this year I bought:

Black Pearl - looks like it is going to produce leaves only - boo-hoo!!!! I was sooo looking forward to those mysterious dark blooms....

Jewel - diminutive - lovely - 2 stalks at a time - a gorgeous display of creamy white with a splash of red deep inside - a slight spicy scent as well

Double Record - first stalk had 7 blooms!! So nice I went a bought another! (local store has huge, and I mean really huge bulbs for only $10 Canadian).

Red Lion - still asleep

Picotee - still asleep

Green Goddess - barely showing a nose peeking through...

Also bought another Baby Star since last year's is still sleeping.

Addicted? Me? Oh no!!!! :)

Anna (wondering what will happen if she keeps buying fresh bulbs every year to ensure holiday/winter blooms, whilst keeping all the previous years' bulbs as well!)

I was very excited when I found this forum too. I have read everything on here and have learned some things already...and its just a new forum. Thanks!

I have only grown one amaryllis before...a few years ago...I was trying to find the pics that I took of that but haven't been able to yet. This fall I decided that I would try some more....so I bought 3....figuring that was a lot....and would get me though the winter. haha...WRONG! Once I saw all those beautiful pics on here.....I had to have more.....so last night I bought three more.....so now I have 6 and if I can find more.......hahaha.

This morning I was up at 6:00 potting them up. :O Two of these bulbs are just showing the tips of a stem....so I am hoping they will be okay. The third one hasn't started yet.

I was hoping to find a double....but haven't had any luck yet....I might have to mail order next fall.

I'll have to post pictures this winter for ID's.... a few that were originally boxed bulbs and then a Lemon Lime and a Fairy Tale.

A few others were victims of nasty bulb flies. Bad bad bad flies.

I was really happy to see this new forum. I received one Hippeastrum as a gift a couple of years ago, but I didn't really get into growing amaryllis until last year. Now I am really interesting in Hippeastrum breeding, and in trying to grow some of the species. It's a shame that so few of the species are in cultivation. Getting some species is going to be my next project.

Here is the list of hybrids that I currently have: Charisma, Blossom Peacock, Aphrodite, Picotee, and a unlabeled red (I think Red Lion). I also recently ordered: Green Goddess, Jewel, Nymph, Amputo, Emerald, Papilio Butterfly, and H. gracilis 'Pamela'

I'm really enjoying everybody's responses! And I realized I'd forgotten to list my 'NOT appleblossom'... Courtesy of wallyworld...I gave in and bought a kit and -lo and behold- my appleblossom is tomato red! lol
Well, it's beautiful anyway, even if it isn't pink!

Hi Everyone,

I'm usually over at the HP forum, but got a notice about this forum on an amaryllis thread I started about a month ago. It's a wonderful thing to have a forum just for amaryllis growers! Thanks GW!

I'm currently growing Lemon Lime, Papillio, Red Lion, Elvas(which looks an awful darn lot like Picotee!) and Royal Velvet. Lemon Lime and Red Lion are done flowering and Papillio and Elvas are stealing the show right now. The Royal Velvet was just planted 1 week ago, so I'll probably get an after Christmas flowering.

My gold medal is ready to open any day but just hasn't yet, and I do have a photo of black pearl on my album. It really is nearly black! I should have turned the flash off; the added light sort of distorts the true color a bit. Click on the link to my album on my member page.

Hi everyone. I just wanted to add that I bought Black Pearl this year and it's blooming right now. It's very beautiful, its flowers are large and very symmetrical, well-rounded, and the colour IS sort of dark cherry red, two-toned, with no orange tint, but nowhere as dark as the pictures shown on retailers' web sites. Still, it's gorgeous. I wish I could post a picture, but my digital camera simply doesn't know what to do with the colour red.

This year I tried to restrain myself. The current selection, most of it still in the fridge, is:

Exotica (sitting next to the computer, just about to bloom)
Aphrodite (showing the tips of stalks, on the kitchen counter)
Charisma (3)
Lemon Lime (2)
Pink Diamond (3)
Melusine
Papilio
Picotee (2)

In past years I have also loved:
Apple Blossom
Hercules
Green Goddess
Nymph
Sweet Surrender (the most magnificent flower, but they do eventually bend down, even with stakes, and can look messy towards the end)
and others too numerous to name.

I also have about forty Ziva paperwhites just waiting for their pebble and water homes. Am always looking for pretty containers for my paperwhites! My amaryllis are all potted in terra cotta, slightly larger pots than are usually recommended.

My addiction to this flower is sick, sick, sick, and I love it!

I saw Sweet Surrender on John Scheepers' web site on the gift box section not too long ago. It looked exactly like Aphrodite on the display picture. I wonder if it is any different. I regret I did not buy it last year. I don't see it anymore. Does anyone have a first hand look and maybe a picture of Sweet Surrender and know what the difference is from Aphrodite?
