Good Morning Quilters! Did you do any sewing this week? I was able to get more of the Be My Neighbor blocks done. I only have two more to do. On Monday I cut out the rest of the blocks so that I could just sew if I had a few minutes. On Tues. and Thurs., Sami and I went up to the sewing room while Charlotte napped. Sami loves to "do crafts" and I did a little sewing.

This isn't sewing related but on Tues. I got out my doll trunk and showed Sami my baby doll and all the clothes that my mother made for her. She was fascinated with the doll and the clothes. I think a couple of the dresses are made from feed sacks. My mom didn't use feed sack material so I think the fabric came from our neighbor lady.

I hope to finish the quilt blocks this weekend. Are you sewing or quilting this weekend?

I'm doing more thinking about it than doing, I'm afraid. I've been tending to Mom in Oregon and tending to hubby now that I'm home again. I did do some shopping at a favorite fabric store that is on my way to Oregon and I always stop to use their bathroom. I just love that store. I have to dream up projects just to buy stuff. But, now I'm home again and cleaning up a spot in my sewing room. Today is our mini group where we do more gossiping than sewing. Maybe that will inspire me.

I got Val's blocks for September but not a lot of action for August. I only have 9 so far but that will make a cute quilt for a child. These bright colors are delightful.

I have two flannel grand-dog quilts in progress. They'd finish up quickly if I'd just get to it.

Donna.... we will have to try to set something up with the quilt show.... I'm excited about it... you'll probably be running around like a chicken with its head cut off... I e-mailed Darlene who is the lady who demonstrates the machines on HSN... she lives in Florida and I've talked to her a few times in the past and she's always so kind and sweet.... I told her about the quilt show and she said she is going to try to make it.... it would be so great to meet her! She does clothing more than quilts, but still has an interest... Calliope, you do great work and what a cool idea for a design wall. I'm sure it's nice to have the machine right by a window like that. Jasper is a weird color... I call it cream orange :o) I made the curtains today... have to buy a curtain rod now.... it went well, but they weren't long enough so I had to add fabric to the bottom.... and ask me how many needles I broke on the quarter inch foot.... try three... yes, three in one day... :-/

I probably won't get much sewing done this weekend. My mother came in this morning. My son and daughter in law also came in. We went to an old old restaurant in Chattanooga called Bea's for a late lunch. 4 cousins also went with us. It's one of those old southern restaurants that have a lazy susan in the middle of the table and keep the food piled high. They were serving fried chicken, bbq, chicken and dumplings, okra, sliced tomatoes, stewed potatoes, slaw, potato salad, greens, pinto beans, rolls, corn bread and cherry cobbler. The restaurant has been in business since the early 60's with the same lazy susan tables. Best fried chicken in the area. You eat all you want for a moderate price. Mom will be here until sometime Sunday, so I won't be in the sewing room until after she leaves. Jackie

No sewing for me - we arrived in England Saturday morning - and forced ourselves to stay up until 9:30 last night. I got up at 1 this afternoon - DH about 2:30! Our son arrived about 3pm (we are staying with him). After he got settled back in we walked into town then had dinner. We are all just chillin this evening. He goes back to work tomorrow, I am hoping to see if there are any fabric shops nearby - will keep you posted. I hope you all have a great time at retreat - I am sure you will!

Most definitely!! Sorry I've been AWOL for so long. Too much stress and craziness going on lately, but it seems to be calming down again. My son is marching in the high school football game tonight (plays trumpet), so I have to go to that. Other than a few other taxi-mom trips and a few chores, I hope to sew all weekend. I'm starting a new embroidery only quilt (hoopsisters sewn seeds) class next week. I have everything purchased, but I have some prep work for the first class. This quilt will be shades of blue with tan and white. I'm making queen size, but may add a border to make it king so it will fit on my bed. I'm also trying to get my head wrapped around a kids clothes quilt I've been putting off for months. I find it very nerve racking cutting up the clothes to get them to fit in squares the way the mother wants them.

I finished cutting the backing this morning for DD's quilt. Finishing up some housecleaning, then up to the sewing room. This one is so big I'm going to have to sandwich on the floor. Our dog would be all over it, so I'll have to do it tonight. I told DD to keep the dog in the family room all evening and then she sleeps with same daughter. I glue the layers and I can do all three at once, so it will be dry in the a.m.. I'm just quilting straight lines since it is so big, so hoping it won't take me forever.

I have been delinquent - not much quilting going on for a couple of weeks now. We were out of town for six days, but otherwise I've been just lazy. This afternoon I did finalize (I think) my fabric choices for a baby-size lozenge quilt. The main fabric and binding will be a fabric with a blue background and yellow, green and orange polka dots. I still have not finished the MSQ pattern Two Step, which is sitting there, staring at me. Got to get a move on!

Started a new quilt today. I had a lovely Amy Butler layer cake. Started a simple HST quilt with a lot of negative space for FMQ.

Beautiful! No quilting for me. We are trying to get the RV ready to leave tomorrow afternoon for DH's bicycle trip from Yellowstone to Glacier NP. Our exchange students came back from camp today, so that meant, laundry for them, packing, out to dinner and putt-putt golf. They are off to bed then airport tomorrow. It has been a busy 3 weeks! No quilting for me for the next 3 weeks, either. I didn't get my applique stuff together, so will grab my Kindle and read!

Those are gorgeous fabrics, they look East Indian to me. Lois, that Two Step sounds familiar, I'll have to go to MSQ's site and check it out. It might be one I thought I'd like to do, too. There are so many on that site I want to do, and I have done quite a few. Won't be sewing today, toe is still out of commission, it's my driving foot, both sewing machine and car. But I'm between projects anyway. I had to ask DH to go to Walmart and get me a pair of flip-flops in case I absolutely HAVE to get out. Boy Howdie, did he ever come back with some butt-ugly thongs! They were marked down to 2 dollars, they have watermelons printed on the soles. He said it was either those or bright pink or black so he picked those. I hate thongs but I can't stand to wear a closed pair of shoes right now and I have nothing else. I'm walking better and the toe isn't as black as it was but it's still too painful to touch it.

Oh, yeah, I just went and checked out that 2-step, Lois, and yes, it's one I want to do, too! And I definitely have the scraps to do it.

I finally got up the ambition and nerve to start the little girls' quilts. I just made two blocks, only 206 to go. Trying to be super careful about cutting, sewing and squaring. Blocks are only 7" finished. I should have drafted out an 8 in. Version. This will be a long term project.

Two step looks like a good stash buster idea.

Love it, Vasu! Such nice, bright colors.

We are currently at the Mt McKinley Princess Lodge near Talkeetna, Alaska. Tomorrow we are going to the Denali Princess Lodge and will spend two days in Denali National Park. Then on to Fairbanks Princess Lodge for two days, then home overnight Fri/Sat.

Yeah, Linda, I hit that one this afternoon! I got five Alaska themed batik fat quarters. :)

We also had a pretty awesome tundra wilderness tour today. Around 7 hours traveling deep into Denali NP. We saw 10 bears, 12-15 Dall sheep, two caribou, several willow ptarmigans (Alaska's state bird) and a cheeky little squirrel who sat at the edge of the road and posed for us for quite a while. A moose ran across the road but disappeared into the brush before most people saw it.

Tomorrow we ride a bus up to Fairbanks for two nights at the Fairbanks Princess Lodge, then fly home overnight Friday/Saturday.
