Are you quilting this weekend? March 29-31
Comments (13)Well Saturday morning I get a mom's day off as Grandma is taking my son to our church's Easter egg hunt, and then we will be dying eggs Saturday afternoon. I found out this week that I will not have to a surgery after all, so am much relieved about that, and that means I can actually spend time in my garden this spring and summer and fall and not have to worry about lifting. I got lots done on my parents' quilt this week. I only have 3 blocks left out of 100 to make. So will work on these 3 Card Tricks blocks this weekend and next week. I actually completed 3 hand-sewn Card Tricks blocks on last Tuesday and it left me sore and the muscles in between my back shoulder blades tied up in knots for 2 days, so I will try to quilt more slowly and in moderation this weekend. And this weekend I want to try to clean off my sewing/computer desk and get things ready to start a grandbaby quilt for one of my friends in April. I plan to hand-sew the grandbaby quilt 40" x 40", but should be able to finish it in a couple of months I think. And then when I finish that small quilt, later this summer I want to start hand-sewing the Card Tricks blocks together for my parents' queen-size quilt - I don't know if I will have it hand-quilted by Christmas so it may turn in to an anniversary quilt or a 2014 Christmas present to them. Also last week I got to go shopping at Hobby Lobby with my Mom and got some more 18" x 24" clear plastic sheets - so in April I want to sit down and draw out the Cactus Basket and make plastic pattern templates for it, I think I want to do it as a 12" finished block. One of my friends on the Quilting Haven sent me a pattern pdf for it she made in EQ, but unfortunately the pattern pdf does not print exactly to scale, but she did also send dimensions for each of the pattern pieces so I don't think it will be too hard to draw the pattern pieces thanks to her help with this project. My Mom said she would look and see if she can find my Great Grandma's quilt tops that she stored for us 3 kids and she is talking about trying to finish my Sunbonnet Sue blocks and top that she started for me when I was a kid - so I am hoping I get to quilt these projects in the future. Oh and my sister called me today and was excited about the Joann store app on her phone (I don't have a Joann store near me) and so she went shopping for fabric for me, my sister loves me dearly and I can't wait to get that box from her next week, that just made my day today. Hope everyone has a Happy Easter! Best to you, Sandra This post was edited by quiltingfox on Fri, Mar 29, 13 at 21:24...See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? March 29-30
Comments (19)Friday I went to the Mancuso Quilt Show in Savannah, and today I cut the remainder of the medallions and melons I need for the double wedding ring quilt I started then set aside last fall. I realize now, after setting this aside, then deciding that I want this to be a queen size quilt rather than a lap quilt, that I needed a lot more medallions and melons. I was fortunate to have overbought, but unfortunate to still be short by 3 medallions. Luckily, I found the fabric online at a FL store, so Monday I will call them to order enough to complete the quilt. I'm almost finished piecing the arcs - 254 arcs total. Am on the last lot - more than 1/2 way through too. My goal for April will be to get through dsd's wedding on Tybee Island April 11 and then finish piecing this double wedding ring quilt. And not go crazy between our new-build- construction and the wedding. oh, big news that I almost forgot to mention, I'm heading back to Savannah tomorrow to pick up the Juki ti2000 that wanted to follow me home! Called the rep today and paid for it, so will pick it up tomorrow! Woohoo. Sharon, don't know what your relationship is to Katie, but very happy to hear that she's beating cancer. It's a wicked disease, and it's amazing and fabulous that she's beating it. Theresa, hope your eyes are better quickly. Marji...See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? April 29-30?
Comments (8)I would love to attend a Bonnie Hunter class. I have been inspired by her website. Congrats again, Theresa. I'm so happy you won those blocks. I spent several hours at Blue Bamboo yesterday going through all their fabric. Everything is 50% off and I got some great backing fabrics for $3.99 per yard. I picked up 2 yards of a rust-colored Asian print and several complimentary half yard cuts to make another View from the Cabin quilt. I still need some colors for the log cabins that I wasn't able to find there. I found border fabric for my One Block Wonder and backing for Star-Struck. I also found background and border fabric for String X, another Bonnie Hunter scrappy that I'm working on. All told, I spent $117 for 22 yards of top of the line fabrics. That's $5.32 per yard on average. I'm a happy camper....See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? August 11-13
Comments (11)Donna - if you have a stop in Skayway and Ketchikan, there are quilt shops!! Have a wonderful trip. We dropped our exchange students off today for a week at our Lions camp in southern Colorado. Phew. They come back to us next Saturday then on the plane home on Sunday, the 20th. Now I have a week to get ready to get everything ready for a 2-1/2 week RV trip. DH is bicycling from Yellowstone to Glacier National Park with a friend. The women are driving the RVs and doing the cooking so the guys only have to ride. We hope to get to Casper, Wyoming on Monday, the 21st, in time to see the eclipse. I hope this week I can pull together some fabrics I need for an applique project (how I hate applique!) that I can take with me. Sue...See Morenannykins
