Are you quilting this weekend? Aug. 1-3
Comments (17)Linda, glad you're getting settled... Donna, have you visited the quilt shop yet? I had the first part of my class there on Monday... it is a beginning quilt class, so that, combined with me being a 30 year old guy, the ladies seemed to think I didn't even know how to thread a needle. Until I pulled out my Bernina.... and then threaded it in 4 seconds .... instant respect! I had fun, but will have to go back a few more times to finish... Also bought some best press spray and aurifil thread for the first time... I need a break from sewing this weekend.... I went to embroider for the first time in months last night... I had 3 designs I wanted to stitch out and I went through all the drama of setting for the machine up for embroidery and found out that I've lost my medium hoop... I looked for 3 hours and finally just ordered another one for 120 dollars.... ugh! So, no sewing.... I need a break! But I made this before starting the break! Comments (21)Glad you got something done, Jennifer... Did you try Amy yet? Are you two becoming friends? Thanks for the tips... I admit to taking pretty large bites with the pins, so I will try smaller ones and see if it helps. I have tried pressing like that, but it seems that when i do, the presser foot just pushes the seam back over the other way when it goes over it anyway... maybe a severe reduction in presser foot pressure is what's needed. I sewed and ripped all day yesterday and totally lost myself in the project. I did more sewing than ripping, but I've recently fallen In love with the show Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman (I never watched it when it was on in the 90s) and so I when I and to rip, I watched that.... I tried to take a shortcut and not use heat and bond on the diamond that I appliqued in the middle. I thought everything would be OK until I tried to quilt it and it puckered. Had to rip out all those blanket stitches and do it all over again right. No more shortcuts! I made the bag a box bottom bag so it will sit better and I'd never done that before, but it was so easy. I tried to embellish with decorative stitches and I'm happy with they way most of them turned out, though a few of them didn't form perfectly I love the 9mm wide decorative stitches, but they sure use a lot of thread. Now for the lining and handles.... Tomorrow I have to drive the place where I used to attend Sit and Sew (I haven't gone in several weeks due to work schedule conflicting) because we are having a retreat day next Saturday and I have to buy fabric... I could have gotten the fabric online, but the lady who is hosting the retreat and who hosts the sit and sews has a small home based business and I want to support her as much as possible. The retreat is from 8 AM to 5 PM... I was supposed to work that day, but requested a vacation day so that I can do it. The only problem will be getting up before noon... It's an hour away, so I'll have to wake up at 5 and that's usually just when I'm tearing myself away from the sewing machine to go to bed! Hope everyone is having a great weekend....See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? 12/11-12/12
Comments (14)I sneaked in a little machine quilting this morning with my morning cuppa. I get withdrawal if I don't. LOL. I doubt if I'll tackle it again tonight. This is the Saturday I watch my little g'son for the day. What a pleasure. He is ten months old and has been walking a month now, and very happy and curious. That keeps granny running. I'm in Ohio too, and the forecast looks gruesome for the weekend. We have food, we have heat.......I can nest. If it does come down I 'ain'ta going nowhere, nohow' for a few days. I got caught in a sudden and unexpected white out last weekend and had to abandon my little foreign car and get rescued by my DH in the 4WD and go fetch the car a day later. Not going 'there' again. If it makes you all feel better, I have crops in the g'house for spring already and they're popping they little green heads up. We have poinsettia deliveries all next week. That ought to be good for a laugh as we slide around in the mess. Perhaps they'll revise the forecast. It happens. Yes, I'll try to finish up the log cabin and then sew together the blocks on the design way before I start my wool quilt (I am itching to get it started, but promised myself only one UFO at a time now). I got overwhelmed with them this year....See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? August 7-9
Comments (25)Sue, sorry to hear you hurt your knee. Though your story does make me feel better since I got a concussion on vacation riding a roller coaster...People have said to me since, "do you not think you are too old to be planning vacations around roller coasters?" and I am like "no, it would not have hurt me if I had not been so short." Age has nothing to do with it and I am glad that you are still going out rafting and having fun. I go rafting on the Ocoee River at least once every summer. If I were in your shoes right now, I would just be thankful it was not worse. The rapids and the rocks can be dangerous. Hopefully some physical therapy can fix your knee. Next time though, maybe you should just hang on while everyone else paddles LOL Remind me to tell you the story of my friend Karen rafting this summer. :)...See More- 6 years ago
