Choosing mid century chairs for living room
I have attached couple of pictures of my current living room (not very colourful yet). We have a mid century sofa, personal portraits above sofa, coffee table and a fabric recliner. Please provide suggestions to add two more accent chairs facing the tv and some mid century decor. Thanks a ton!!!

Comments (14)I would go with terrazzo since going with wood would be a poor design choice. I am not a fan of wall to wall carpet for a variety of reasons so that wouldn't be an option for me. Terrazzo is both true to the period and would look great with that style of the home. It is also more of an investment to future buyers as anyone who is looking for a classic MCM home is going to be thrilled to find terrazzo. Comments (29)Great house. I'd probably paint the room a little lighter and remove the carpet and hope there is hardwood underneath or install it. Then I'd rent "North by Northwest" and pay particular attention the Vandamm's mountain house towards the end of the movie. Don't be too dogmatic about the MCM as clean styles like shaker, mission and some contemporary can blend in well too. Comments (34)The look of the little table works with the space. A pair of comfortable wood chairs with separate cushions you can change out is all you really need unless you're spending a lot of time sitting in them -- on the computer or visiting with a friend ... then you might want chairs with more upholstery and more cushion comfort. If you're choosing the plain wood chairs, make sure the wood back is made of the wider flat boards that are curved ( rather than vertical round dowels ). Have had both and the flat curved boards will be a lot more comfortable. I like the high back for extended sitting and these kinds of seats are comfortable and easily covered when need to be changed. 6 years agoSince I have no idea what is opposite the TV or how much space you have, my suggestions may not even be possible.. Having the sofa at the short end of the rug makes the whole space look off balance. I would pull the rug back several feet, turn the sofa to face the TV, pull the recliner back and set it on the corner of the rug, and if there is space, put two chairs under the photos.

6 years agoYou might replace the recliner with a smaller, more mid-century one, but I doubt you will get two more chairs in the space without overcrowding. Here is West Elm's Rhys recliner with Crate & Barrel's Cavett chair. (You probably need a larger rug.)

6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoI think groveraxle has the right idea. The sofa should be facing the TV. Then you can put two chairs on that wall. Definitely lower the pictures. Don't know what your budget is, but here are some different options for a low console under the TV.

I think I'd move the sofa to face the TV as well, along w/ shifting the rug, unless that's not feasible for through traffic. & I'm thinking placing pictures 6" above top of seating might mean someone leaning back & banging their head against the frames? Thinking 10 inches might be safer.

6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoI feel the room needs another layer. Perhaps a layered hide rug over what you have? I'm not sure this chair would be the right size but I like the combination of materials.
Also, a little touch of mid century Bling here and there. Maybe some cool lighting and a dash of brass.
Maybe this tray on your coffee table?
I would also add this light airy bit of bling fireplace screen because it's to confusing seeing the black square-ish of tv and black square of fireplace so close.
