Laminate plywood fronts&doors for midcentury modern look. Good idea?

Hi, guy! I'm in love with with midcentury modern style of these kitchen cabinets. They are made of laminated plywood which was obviously very fashionable back in 50s and looks cool in fotos but is it worth using nowadays? I'd appreciate your comments on the durability of such material. I like the design very much but have serious doubts if the laminate stays on place with time, if cleaning is easy and stains can be removed with a soap and damp cloth and if scratches from pots, pads, lids are easy to be made. Also in the photo plywood edges are not laminated to create contrast between white fronts. Is it ok? How they should be finished to be water and stain-proof? Would you recommend to stay with this design or consider mdf?
