Comments (12)gdionelli: I am not certain that I would recommend the use of any soil auger in a rocky soil, especially some of the "lighter" weight ones that I own and have seen in my searches on the web. Even though the Pro Gardening Auger System is very well built of industrial steel, I still would be a little cautious using it under rocky soil conditions. But that begs the question of how rocky is your rocky soil. In one area of our garden there is a layer of small rocks (pebbles) on top of a weed prevention mat with soil underneath. With some great effort, I removed a "junk" plant of some kind - along with some weeds - and planted a Syringa vulgaris 'Sensation' PICOTEE LILAC in its place with the use of a shade and a shovel (to remove the excess pebbles.) I don't believe that I would have done otherwise - even if I had this auger at the time. Should anyone be interested in the 'Sensation' Lilac - here's the link: http://www.forestfarm.com/search/closeup.asp?PlantID=syvu545 Quite frankly, I would really hate to see anyone spend $39.95 plus shipping and end up being disappointed with my high recommendation because of its possible poor performance or insufficient use in a rocky soil. Perhaps someone will respond to your question with more experience than I. And if you don't see a response in a few months - post it as a question. My apologies for not being more helpful on this point! Comments (5)Nobody has responded yet so I will give it a try. Go to Garden Junk Forum on this site & look at post called "Unexpected project" They lady is making a spot to sit & enjoy in memory of her mother. She shows before & after she has gotten started & I think it will be nice. She does have a new bench sitting there, most of us are thinking we would find an "old headboard from curbside on trash day, yard sale or thrift shop! We like to reuse things, so everyone recycles. You could put your fire pit out there, plant some native plants from somewhere else on your property so water requirements are low & if you want it cozy put up a branch fence in L shaped maybe 8 ft on each side. Just upright posts & branches attached to them for very rustic look(it is just the look, not a solid fence) since you have some property you should find what you need by looking around. Can wire branches onto posts as it rusts it will look rustic. The "fence" takes away the "sitting out in the middle of "nowhere" feel"! Makes your spot a destination. 1 person suggested to someone planting tree hunks as fence to use 1 near the seat. Good idea, might want to bring along a cold or warm drink & "sit a spell" then you have place to set it. Kirkus just brought up the Inspiration Album that Purplemoon put together for us & if you click on that blue link at bottom you will see many great ideas for great sitting spots. You might go to wooden album(albums listed off to the right side) & there will be bed seats & all things wood, vignettes shows spots people have made in their gardens to enjoy. Hope you get some great ideas from the album- we all love it & saves a lot of time looking for a post that may no longer have the pics. Comments (3)Hi Joe, Below is a link to roflol's member page. If you happen to email and not get a reply, you might get the addy from the form and email privately (non GW) as the mail here is often unreliable. I would love to have even 2 or 3 of the Oklahoma Redbud tree...but see you have no wish list for plants or seeds. I wish I had an allium for you. My seed list is terribly out of date I'm sorry to say. What might you be looking for if you happen to have a few seeds to trade? Comments (26)Keep looking, the way you describe the lake house the main thing is that it is on the lake, the curb appeal and lots of other things don't appeal to you. Also, being too close to the lake, what about heavy rains etc, any chance of it encroaching on your home, look at 100 yr flood maps at FEMA.org. Maybe you need a lake house with a bit more property so you have the best of both worlds. I would prefer a lake house set further back than that....See Moresplaker
