Traditionalgir, you are SO very wrong. For one thing, my feelings aren't hurt. Not sure where you got that idea. You have to have thick skin to be on this board, everyone's been treated this way at one time or another. And it's posts like your that keeps people lurking for years before they add another layer of skin. Too bad, really. Sofa table topic, I wanted ideas on how to decorate the top of it. That was all. Instead I got replies telling me to take it back to the store etc. Hardly any ideas on how to decorate it. Mantel topic, - Ditto. I need ideas on how to decorate the mantel. I got replies telling me to tear it down. THIS topic. - Ditto again. I wanted advice on COLOR ONLY, and look what I got instead. I did not ask for unsolicited advice, and that's when topics can get nasty. One of our long time favorite posters left because she did a topic similar to mine, and people were merciless with her and the room. She wasn't asking for advice on her room! I don't know why that's so hard for you and others to understand. If someone needs info on color, don't tell them to get rid of their furniture like was said to me above. It's not nice and it's crossing a line. So when I ask for advice on whether or not I should anchor a rug, I will TAKE that advice, but I did NOT ask for any advice on anchoring. So don't come telling me I won't listen to advice, when I was more than open on getting advice on COLOR only. Whew! Back to COLOR. :) You can't tell from the picture of the back of the room, and other rooms, but there are colors that will blend in with the new rug. I love the dark red that surrounds the rug, and I have a shelf of pink depression glassware in the back of the room, and other Victorian accessories I have in storage. The back of the room has a bit more feminine things to it, the front of the room is just a man cave. Now I can bring the whole room together. The Persian in the back of the room has some burgandy/rust designs in it with the muted turquois background. Love it! This new rug isn't a Persian, because it will get a lot of traffic and play time on it with the grandkids. Spills, etc. Now, If end up not liking it, I will ship that baby back, pronto.

I’d get a rug. They make a lot of nice synthetic ones these days. I’ve never had tripping issues with mine but can see why that may be a concern for some. You can spot clean if you spill something. I like Rug Dr. carpet/spot cleaner. There are a bunch of ones out there. I even ha e scrubbed spots off my wool/silk rug under the kitchen table. I’ve also used a shampooer/carpet cleaner on my synthetic rugs. I borrowed my mom‘s Hoover. Try esale rugs thru have free shipping and free returns. Make sure to put a good quality mat underneath. I love seeing Oriental style rugs in kitchens. I’d pick one with red but I really like red. :). Definitely would look nice to add color. Then I’d repeat colors possibly in towels, washcloths, art and accessories.

Not what you want to hear, but do kitchen first....it might involve removing walls that you just installed, and you might go over budget on hall and not be able to do kitchen...the kitchen will define you design aesthetic for the whole house and you can then have things radiate out from your gorgeous kitchen......it is hard to wait when you want it all done, but kitchens are expensive, so do it first. If you really want to do something in the foyer, remove the wall paper and paint it a color you hope to incorporate into your new design scheme.....it will give you a goal and a met goal in your house....which make everyone feel better....

Been following and wasn't sold on the honeycomb other than you seem to really like it. But once you paired it with the pillow a few posts above, I understand the appeal. It complements nicely. The colors are quite versatile on that pink/salmon spectrum. And I really liked your original herringbone idea, too, for subtle texture in the room. I think when you have so many options for everything, having an inspiration piece like your art is a good starting point. It's ok to keep returning to it to keep a general focus for the room. I'm saying this because about 10 years ago, I had to choose carpet, sofa fabric, and wall paint color for a family room and was so overwhelmed until I found a vase I liked. It alone served as my "inspiration" piece, and my choices were centered around it. The room came together wonderfully as a result.
