Comments (16)Thank you -- I guess I am kind of rambling here and not getting to the point. Pal I do love the idea of wood verticals, but they are just too pricey . If i was planning to be here another 20 years I would consider but I think we will be moving within the next 5 years. With that, I want to update with resale in mind (and not spend too much $$(. I have 2 points; the first starts with the sliding patio door window treatment. While we rarely do close the blinds, (more for sun than for privacy)I still need that option. I could probably just get new slats to put in the track for the vertical (cause a few have sort of split and fallen off..)but I keep thinking that they just look so less than good in general. That started me thinking that I should consider perhaps some panels on a rod? Then I wonder because the blinds are 80 or 81 inches long (that little recess of course is not at 84"). Then I wonder if I should add same similar panels to the family room. Secondly- I think about how the couches are 10 years old or older, and are uncomfortable to sit on need replacing....I have looked somewhat but there are so few furniture stores any more and I barely see any blue shown though I love the blue...... . I do love the way the blue plays off all the beige(walls, carpet, cabinets etc). all I see when I look is beige/brown (which might work?) or reds and greesn which I dont think I want. Well I think you maybe helped me out here.I am thinking maybe I should just replace the slats in the vertical blinds... and then ask for help on my wall arrangements? But just to show how my brain works, after I semi came to the realization that I might just replace the verticals (because they ARE functional and they do work- I just have never loved them)... do you think a beige/tan couch could work well in here? and or do you think these would work if I kept the blue? (LINDEN PAISLEY in lake mist?) or if I did add panels would you go with a white like the blinds? Or just leave it alone and just replace /renew the vertical blinds? Here is a link that might be useful: lake mist linden?...See MoreHELP!! I can't make paint color decision!
Comments (141)Amberley- We are going for an unfitted look in our kitchen and have had a pine work island table an 2 jam cupboards custom made and because of budget the rest of the cupboards will be Ikea Tidaholm. We're doing alot of customizing ourselves so although they might not be our first choice in doors they are a simple shaker that we think will blend in well with our other period pieces. I would really like to have the doors sprayed but cannot find a single place in Toronto who will spray them in F&B. Most places like to use their own brand. I know you can't color match BM to F&B and thats why I don't want to waste Old White on the cupboards. I thought it would be easier to pull off a cream/off white color in BM and use Old White on the walls. We're putting on a fairly large addition and doing all our own work so having someone else paint the cupboards is a gift we decided to give ourselves.I guess the other alternative is to break down and just do it.The problem with that is that they have to be sanded as well, my least favorite job, I think I recall that you were going to go with Ikea doors as well or order from Shers(spelling?) Did you paint your own and if so what kind of a finish did you get? Your kitchen is going to be gorgeous and your house looks beautiful as well. It's old is is not? Comments (49)Yknow, IMHO, I wish we all could drop the "D" word from our vocabulary. If we love it , if its well made, if its functional - then a place can be found for it, period. In other words - your china cab is just fine, and it does look good on the side rather than viewed head on. That said of course we like our rooms freshened up now and then - but I think you can jazz it up in other ways incl choosing a new color ILOVE greens/browns/tans, but the pea soup color Im kind of tired of. (or so it looks on my monitor anyway, which has been known to be wrong.) Definitely think about going deeper richer. Dont know if Penny's or Anglo's deep dark colors are good for you but it gives you an idea at least of what deeper/richer could do for you. If all else fails maybe you could just take the living room color and just go a few steps darker/more intense with it. Let the DR be cozy and intimate complete w/ a big china cabinet - why not? The DR should relate well to the LR, and that would be one way of doing it. Minor quibble - I would think about that wall space where the china cab was - is there a third pic that could fit in there? With cabinet moved, that wall becomes very significant. Not liking just the two pics , needs to be 3 I think..... Or some other wall decor or arrangement .... minor thing, so perhaps just wait for the inspiration or right thing to come along....See MoreHelp! Exterior paint and trim color with white vinyl windows
Comments (19)Hi Beth, I do like shakes on the gable end of some of the houses around here. Our pitch is very low, and I wonder if it would look funny with such a small section having shakes. At this point, we are sticking with the t1-11 until in a few years we can stucco. By that time, the house will have another room off the lower floor and also a porch, so it will look like a totally different house. Thank you so much for the color palettes!...See MoreWindows on Washington Ltd
