vinyl plank click flooring
Comments (6)just had the allure installed with a budget kitchen remodel. so far, so good! my GC had recommended it, a floor guy for 20 years, and he was/is impressed with it. i used the higher end cherry as i was looking for a color match to the oak floors in the other rooms. i have no comment to give on the durability...but it is guaranteed for life in residential settings. so far...so good. i like the "cushioning" it gives after having the 70's blue floor tile when we bought this place in june. ;) the only issue was make sure they click together...we had one that kept missing. of course we had none left so another box had to be bought. probably a good thing for "just in case" down the road. ;)...See MoreClick Lock Vinyl-Smooth, Semi-Gloss, Grey/Silver
Comments (3)If you want smooth, you will need to look at stone-look or tile-look vinyl. If you want semi-gloss you will have to wait awhile. The trend is SUPER MATTE. You want a gloss level that is directly opposite the trend. To do that, you will have to work with the highend vinyls/laminates out of Europe (as Patricia points out) or you have to wait. The mass produced products are going with the trend that sells. That means 99.9% of all finishes right now will be matte. If you can afford working with a special order from Europe, then go for it. If you can't, then you will have to wait....See MoreFlooring. Click and lock

Comments (3)In *theory it can be done...but in practice it is a massive PITA. You need to assume you will loose all the planks you pull (the click edges on vinyl are EXTREMELY BRITTLE and break just by looking at them) and a few of the one's around the area as well. It is very hard to 'reverse' new planks into place. Example: the planks you want to pull are on the STARTING wall. That means they started with this wall and then finished the room on the opposite wall. To pull the planks at the start wall is easy enough...but clicking them BACK into place is a 'reverse' install. It is a DAMN DIFFICULT thing to do with laminate...and near impossible for the vinyl. Again, to the point of ruining 3-5 more planks than you thought you needed. My personal choice ('cause I'm lazy and I'm cheap...yah...I said it ;-]) is to ask for a discount. It should be worth the value of the LABOUR they would have to give you plus the cost of the 'planks' that were laid inappropriately. If they mislaid 7 planks (let's imagine that's a box = 16sf), then they owe you 16sf (whatever you paid for per square foot price) and the cost to remove the planks and reinstall them). The 'going rate' for a 'spot fix' or small job = $50/hour. That's where you end the negotiations...not start them. That's what the 'fix' is worth to them. Remember: it is a good thing to have money in the bank after a renovation....See Morethatsmuchbetter
