new Samsung Silvercare Steam FL washer thoughts and questions
Comments (1)Macmom . . . read through the threads that come up by searching "smelly clothes" or similar, and I think you'll be able to forestall any mold problems. I used a new Maytag FL in our last house for the last 5 months we were there and never had a hint of mold. Because it belonged to the new owner, I was super careful with it. I always left the door and the detergent drawer open after using, so they dried out, and checked under the seal for leftover water. I used Charlie's Soap and 1 oz. softener plus white vinegar in the rinse. My towels got increasingly softer and fluffier the whole 5 months! I don't have any experience with Kirklands, so can't help there. That said, I'm so glad to hear you're pleased with your Samsungs . . . we chose the 328 models (without steam) and can hardly wait to move in and use them! After a year of apartment laundry room or dragging laundry to one of my daughters' houses, I'm SOO ready to try out my new toys!...See MoreIs this a good deal? (Maytag Epic FLs, $599 each)
Comments (5)Renclothes, Thanks for your posts. Actually, the machine is a 4.0 CF (I'll post a link below). Maybe that model was revamped from a 3.8 to a 4? I don't know. Mine is an "SQ1" if maybe that's the difference. ??? I have no idea; I haven't bought a washer and dryer in literally 23 years! And noooo, no pedestals, blast! That would have made it the deal of the century, for sure!!! ;o) Thanks again for your posts! I did buy the machines, and they will be delivered Tuesday. SOOOOO excited! (And I got another 10% off for the superficial scratches... score!!!) Here is a link that might be useful: Washer showing capacity as 4.0...See MoreHarmony/Cabrio vs. Duet FL?? What are your thoughts...?
Comments (14)Comparing the Cabrio and the Harmony to the Duet isn't exactly an apples to apples comparision, because the Duet is several hundred dollars more in price. Also, in order to get the full benefit you have spend even more on platforms to raise both the washer and the dryer up to eye level. As far as wash performance goes the Duet probably has the best wash performance as far as removing stains, and the Cabrio probably has an edge when it comes to particulate soils and pet hair. The Cabrio probably also has an edge when it comes to rinsing out particulate soils and pet hair as well, but they are probably comparable when it comes to rinsing out detergent. The Duet is the clear winner when it comes to water consumption, but the Cabrio is still pretty good. As far as vibration is concerned, the Cabrio is the runaway winner, primarily because front loaders as a genre are intended more for solid brick houses in Europe as opposed to wooden houses in North America. Capacity is at least a tie, with maybe the Cabrio having an edge. I've actually heard of people washing more than twenty pounds of laundry in Cabrio, but if you stuff it too full you run the risk of it sucking your socks and underwear between the inner and outer wash tub. The Duet Actually has a smaller volume wash tub than the Cabrio, but since it's a front loader, and since its wash tub is tilted up, all that volume is useable capacity. Allthough, the Cabrio wash tub volume is all pretty useable as well. Right now the Duet, being a traditional front loader, is a pretty safe bet since the technology has been on the market for years in Europe. The Cabrio technology is newer, but impeller washers have been on the market for years in Asia as well, allthough the impellers over there are deep fill washers, whereas the Cabrio is an HE style washer. If it's any comfort, there are now actually three Cabrio style washers on the market, the GE Harmony, the Cabrio/Oasis/Bravos, and the Fisher & Paykel Aquasmart, so it looks like all the major appliance manufacturers are converging on the same top loading HE washer design....See MoreCalling all N.FL. & Central FL rebels!
Comments (40)Here are a couple of cycads in a greenhouse I haven't shown yet. The The first one is an Encephalartos gratus from Mozambique in a 45 gallon container that has about 30 inches of trunk. The last plant is an E. ferox, tubular form female in a 90 gallon container. If anyone ever does buy this plant, I'm not sure how I will move it. But I will figure that out if the time comes. I'd probably have to rent a bobcat with forks on it. The picture really doesn't show that is is 10 feet across. This second picture just shows all kinds of different cycads. Looks like a cycad jungle....See Moreaa62579
