White or Black furniture for Navy (Gentleman's Grey) wall?

Hello all,

My room is painted Benjamin Moore's Gentleman Grey (Color Link) which is a pretty dark blue color. I generally prefer black furniture, and I looked at some google images of the color. In Benjamin Moore's official picture (first picture), the mirror / table seems to go well... other pictures I found on google, the black is barely visible and it blends in. The last picture is my room and how much lighting I get. I appreciate your help, best regards.

Are you wanting to go with a, "modern" look or other? I'd personally shy from Navy.. burnished gold accent pieces with Gentleman Gray would be very pretty. You could go black or white. I ask, male, female or both?

Unfortunately I already picked the color! I also thought the gold would look good, but I think it may not be "modern" (to answer your question, yes a modern look - and also male). I had the hardwood done to be more on the white side so I've got contrast with the floor and walls (if that matters even, I'm not the best when it comes to interior design)

If I were you, I would wait to get some of the bedding and furniture before selecting paint color. A neutral might not be the best choice especially if you are drawn to darker tones. BM Van Deusen Blue is great color, but if you are going to do a dark blue duvet or comforter, then you might not want more blue. So, these elements all have to play well together. Loads of neutrals out there. If you just want neutral pick anyone of the warm grays. But a great chandelier against that neutral wall color won't be as dramatic as if the wall was a deeper color. So, think through everything before you choose a wall color. Do some sample boards of a variety of colors and see what works best with your chandelier and bedding. Those are your main features.

I know this sounds odd, but I would remove the final pointy ends from the posts on the bed, as on your first inspiration photo. To me it looks very odd. I would definitely do simple curtain panels reaching to the floor and also a rug to give some softness to this room with so much wood. Perhaps very light blue walls with a green and cream bedspread and cream curtains.

I think with is a good choice... you might try some black and white photography on the walls and there is nothing wrong with some burnished gold accent pieces... burnished, not shiny gold as in full on shiny brass... I think it would look great.

I loved the floor as it was....however I'm sure they look great, if you need help with further decor now that you have furnishings post and Houzzer's can help... I do think there is a lot of burnished gold that really pulls dark rooms out.... even a simple bar cart if you entertain with wine bottles or liquor bottles and glasses and so on placed to look like a small bar.

I am a little worried about the floors! I hope it's not too white. It's supposed to be like this... my kitchen/living area is painted Stormy Monday and cabinets are black so really hoping it ends up being good.

I will look into more burnished gold furnishings. That cart does look nice!

My bedroom is gentleman's grey and I have white, dark, and a wide range of metal finishes in it. I love it!

well, depending on the furniture you chose.... maybe you'll end up with a great area rug that works with it all if you feel you need to warm up the hardwood... post when you get the furniture in if you need help here!

I think it's a beautiful color. Why not look at mahogany finishes for your furniture instead of black and white. Agree with Porter - brushed gold/brasses accents would be nice too.

Jansgirl: Thanks - Seating for bedroom or living room? For bedroom I may hold off on seating for now... I'd like to get a living room sofa first.

Torreykm: Thank you - I will look at Mahogany finishes see how they compare.

It's hard to really gauge right now because my unit is still under construction for another couple weeks.
