Total lawn reno help

I'm looking to do a total lawn reno next month (eastern MA) on my lawn that is currently full of weeds and bare spots. Can someone please critique my current plan?

8/20 - Spray Roundup and lightly water that week to encourage new growth

8/26-8/27 - Scalp and bag the clippings and power rake. Lay down grass seed and Scotts Turf Builder starter fertilizer. Use a roller to ensure good soil contact

Lightly water 2-3x daily for a few weeks and then water less frequently but more water at a time. Do not mow until grass has reached at least 3 inches in height and only mow 1/3 (with a newly sharpened mower blade).

Late fall (around Thanksgiving) - apply high N fertilizer (Scotts Turf Builder WinterGuard Lawn Food)

Next year I will put down a pre-em in early Spring and then fertilize Memorial Day weekend, Labor Day weekend and late fall.

In addition, I had a few questions:

Will the RoundUp harm any pine trees in the yard that I plan on spraying around?

What is the best way to fill in any low spots?

When I put down the grass seed and starter food, should I also lay compost? What about lawn soil?

Thank you in advance for all of your input.
