how to keep croton from getting too big

I have a croton which I'll attempt to attach a photo of. When I repotted it into a larger pot (because it was drying out every 2 or 3 days and wilting) it started growning rapidly. I really don't want it to get any bigger. It is about 18 inches high now. Is there a way to keep it at this size? I would like to be able to keep the same pot size too so that the pot doesn't "outgrow" the space I want to keep it in. It is starting to wilt every 3 or 4 days in a 9 inch pot. I used to be able to water it weekly.
