Who Has Koko Loko Floribunda Rose?
Comments (11)My Koko Loko survived my zone 5 winters reasonably well, though it wasn't cane hardy. You shouldn't have any trouble in zone 7 LI. As for color, mine are still second year plants and haven't approached the stunning color range of Seil's picture (wowza!). As with most roses in the lavender/russet range, their colors will be deeper in cooler temperatures and/or with some afternoon shade. Don't be disappointed if it looks a bit washed out in 90 degree and higher temperatures - this rose has a changeable nature. Cynthia...See MoreCoordinating Distant Drums
Comments (7)Since Distant Drum's colors are rather neutral I think it would go with just about anything. It really depends more on what kind of look you want. Are you into something bright and cheerful or something more subtle and muted? How long have you had DD? Do you know how big it's going to get yet? I love my Quietness, It blooms a lot, is very hardy and healthy too. It's nice soft pink would be lovely with DD. But it can get pretty large for me so I don't know how big it might get for you. Winter Sunset is good too. It's a lovely golden peach color and generally stay much smaller than Quietness. Something brighter might be Julia Child's yellow. Healthy, hardy and blooms a ton! Grows to about 3 X 3 ft for me. Mauve might be a good choice too. My Love Song did beautifully this season but I haven't wintered it yet so I can't give you any info on that. If you want something in a similar color look at Koko Loco. I was at my rose society meeting last night and everyone who had it agreed that it was a good rose for them. Hardy and blooms a lot with fair disease resistance....See MoreWhat are your best growing "weird color" roses?
Comments (73)If you grow Blue for You, allow it to set self seeds and raise seedlings. Lavender Crush looks very much like what many Blue for You self seedlings mature into. I've raised many just to see "what if" and most have matured into mauve shades, varying from almost white to very dark. Most are semi double to double and all are very vigorous and very well scented. If you check out some of Blue for You's offspring on HMF, they are very likely self seedlings as they very much resemble what self set seed produce. And, Blue for You (and the seedlings I have tried) all root very easily, grow well own root and seedlings should be free from RMV and have made useful root stocks for me, including 3' - 4' long whips for standards. Just a suggestion for anyone interested in playing......See MoreDistant Drums in no-spray garden, or substitute?
Comments (13)Gretahoney, I am z7 so this may not apply to you. I have DD and really like it. This is my second as I lost my first after the freeze/thaw/freeze cycle that we had a couple winters ago. Our winters aren't the same but this rose hates it more than my others. if a couple weeks of 70-80 degrees F are followed by a plunge back into the 20's. By experimenting, I've found that DD likes to be grown like my teas- full hot sun, especially noonday sun, very sharp drainage and plenty of air circulation but not cold wind, not necessarily the richest soil although it seems to like a little compost, like the teas. This is only my second year with this particular DD and I moved it once. Still an experiment, but with high blackspot pressure this year, it has had minimal problems in my no-spray garden and has bloomed several times. It is own root. BTW, Cinco de Mayo is a more tolerant rose altogether and a great bloomer from the start. Color can vary with weather and soil so what you see isn't necessarily what you get. Mine was a cinnamon color that faded pinkish. Sadly, I lost it to RRV last summer....See Moreflowersaremusic z5 Eastern WA
