Window coverings for French doors

We just moved into our new home and now we're thinking about window coverings. We will need something to be able to shade this door/window set, which faces west. Only the one on the left opens. My husband mentioned vertical blinds but that seems very 90's, even though they are practical. What other options do I have? I don't want things flapping against the door. We also don't want to spend a lot as we still have landscaping to do. The door and window have vinyl frames.

Photos and names of types of coverings would help so I know what to look for online.

From what I can tell by the picture it looks like whatever you do will have to be an outside mount. The only thing I can see mounting directly on the doors would be 2 cellular shades. I would go with cordless shades.

Now if you want to do something that will mount similar to verticals but aren't verticals, there are several choices. There pricing can vary widely! I will recommend that you read this blog article. It will give you a lot of ideas as to products available and an idea as to how they compare to each other price wise.

Here is one idea, it is called a Vertiglide. One of the nice things about this product is that when you have it all the way open it only stacks 6 1/2" so it keeps your view.

Thanks! I like the idea is those Vertiglides, and I'll check them out.

Although I am not fond of them the vertical blinds that cover our wall of windows and french door is completely private when closed. I've tried peeking thru them at night to look in my home and I can't see anything. the 2 step process of turning them before pulling them open however puts them on my less-than-favorite list, plus when closed they clatter if a vent blows on them. I had to buy vent things to blow the air horizontal not vertical. Also when the window is open and they are pulled open they clatter in the breeze and have to be tied back. they are tied back for this picture Here is a link that might be useful:

Hi There, French doors have lots of options but it really depends on the type of doors you have. Some doors are prefab and their warranty requires that you do not mount anything on the doors. In that case, I usually recommend a rod mounted over both doors with a "pair" of drapery panels that close in the middle and can be pulled back on either side of the door when not in use. If you have wood doors, you can usually mount drapery hardware called "sash rods" onto the doors themselves and use rod pocket drapery on each door. Hope that helps!

I have curtains on a traverse rod covering French doors in our sunroom/family room. I love being able to open them easily with the pulley, and I love the pattern the curtains bring to the room. Mine are custom but you might be able to find ready made.
