I received an email from cutlery.com announcing a clearance sale, and I did find a few items that I wanted to order. They have free regular shipping for orders over $50, and so that made it worthwhile. Also, they did not charge me tax, and so it must be shipping from outside California.

I ordered a set of silicon spatulas that are heat resistant to 650°F. I threw out a bunch of old one recently and had not gotten around to replacing them. I also ordered a meat cleaver because the one I have is very old (I don't even remember where I got it), and I have not been able to sharpen it successfully.

Too late for me to edit this one, but I did want to add that I also ordered a potato ricer that was 60% off. I have a cheap one that is not very good - I use it mostly in place of a food mill for when I make chili sauce - to remove seeds and skins from chilies. I think the new potato ricer will work a lot better.

The other item I ordered was a Victorinox paring knife set. I really do not have any good paring knives, and so this was something else that I needed.

I never thought about using my ricer as a food mill, which I do not have, so thanks! Very helpful.

Hope you like the paring knives, I have a Victorinox chef's knife and like it a lot.

The Lowes on Bunkerhill and I-10. They still had a few left yesterday. They were selling them out pretty fast. I would also check with your local store and talk to the nursery manager. They seem to have a lot of leeway as far as discounting plants. Last year I bought several peach and nectarine trees from them for $6. They are all growing great this year. They all had fruit but a late freeze at my ranch got most of the fruit this year.

Polly, I don't know those plants, but I think I have a tiny cutting of two of them. Looks like 4 diff plants. Cute!! Maybe needs its' own thread? Looks like the one "bluish" one has flowers? The Philo's growing on what used to be a shelf of a little wire cart. My son tore it up and I've used the sides to support larger plants, and my honey bent the shelves into the box shape for these littler plants. Funny, months ago, I said around here somewhere, "what could grow on a 9" trellis?" And eventually answered myself. Ha! This isn't the most attractive setup, but it was free and should serve its' purpose well, to get this vine started climbing. A regular heart-leaf Philo with one of the sides added to its' pot this weekend.

My bargain buys from Lowe's last year are struggling, and I believe I will need to move them next year to a more hospitable spot, but they're still blooming. Found this Luna Red hardy hibiscus bloom this morning. The stem was so spindly, I had to stake it up, but I do believe that next year, it will be beautiful. Meanwhile, the Sallyfun Blue salvia (also a 90% off find) next to it is not doing as well as I had hoped, but the half-price vincas are doing great, as are the bronze ornamental sweet potatoes, which I don't have a picture of.

I've had good success with them (Cutlery & More) in the past. Good customer service and fast shipping. They also have a bunch of products at 20% right now, including knives with somewhat cult followings like Yaxell, Enso and Tojiro.

I took a look and saw that they also had Messermeister knives, an excellent German brand. I don't really need any knives right now, but DD could use some. I'll check it out!

Cutlery and More is one of my favorite on-line ordering sites. Have always had excellent customer service from them.
