Short elevated matching vanity mirror, does it "work"?
Comments (7)24" frame means interior glass about 20-22 I just taped that space off on our current home frameless mirror - WOW is that short! Set one foot above new 34"H vanity, okay for me at 5'7 cuts off 6fott boyfriends top of head and someone 5'2" will have their chin at frame bottom. Less than 2" high vanity mirror glass? UGH what were they thinking?! ******************** NEW QUESTION **************************** 9 foot ceiling, 6foot wide wall, 42 wide vanity - Thinking vertical mirror will make wall seem wider but would horizontal look better with vainty. Thoughts and suggested measurements appreciated.......See MoreDouble hung windows in kitchens-advice needed
Comments (24)I love my new casement windows. They are Marvin Ultimates. To the OP - I am wondering if the issue isn't the casement itself, but perhaps you had a poorly-made casement window. I replaced my old casement windows with new Marvin casements, and the improvement is like night and day. They crank open and closed with silky smoothness, they seal tightly when shut against winter cold, and have no rattling and no drafts. My casements crank open all the way so that the window is completely perpendicular to the frame. In other words, the window in not open a fraction of the space, it is 100% open and nothing is blocking breezes. Also, the crank has a setting so that you can open the casements so that the outside side turns in so that you can clean it (sorry I don't know how to word it, but I hope you get what I mean). Love that feature - with my old casements I had to look at dirt and bird droppings on the windows for months until I could get someone on a ladder to clean the outside of the windows. So don't be too hasty about not getting casements - it could be you just have to choose a good manufacturer and then you will like them. Also, there is a GW Windows Forum where actual windows contractors hang out, and you can ask more technical questions there if you want. Comments (5)How many lumins will your fixture put out? I just did 2 bathrooms over that last 3 years. In one bathroom the light is great and my lumins = 3000 for my 6.5x9 foot room, with a nice sized window and whitish decor. Even at night it is nice and bright. In the other bathroom that is about 8x9.5 feet I have 6400 lumins that I calculate and it is a little dimmer than the other BR. The room is a bit darker with walnut trim and doors, so that might have something to do with it. I would go for light other than the type of light if you can. The vanity light isn't on all that much during the day, but you will want bright light for makeup and shaving. To clarify the last paragraph. I would try to get the lumins I need, rather then only looking at the type of light. Because the vanity light isn't on but a few minutes a day, and bright light at the vanity is a must....See MoreMaster Bathroom remodel Vanity Mirrors
Comments (18)Your husband's vanity looks fine. Your drawers look larger than your sink cabinet. For a 72" single sink vanity, I'd do a 32" sink base and 20" drawer bases. That's plenty of drawer storage. You'll need to know those measurements to order mirrors and place the sconces. Also to pick a sink that fits. Don't put a dinky sink in that large counter. I might also bump the sink base out 2" to give it a little more prominence. The sink is the focal point, not the drawers. With the sink bumped out, you could put a valance or feet on the sink cabinet and separate valances/feet on the drawer bases. That way it won't look like a run of kitchen cabinets. This has triple mirrors too. Sconces are mounted on mirrors. I like the molding on the drawer bases here. You don't stand there so you don't need a toe kick. Notice the ratio of the sink base to the drawers and how well that would work with the triple mirror idea....See MoreKelly Villanueva
