Need Advice regarding LED lighted mirrors

Slowly working our way thru all the various parts of two bathroom remodels--master and guest bath. Trying to find lighting that DH and I agree on that meets the following criteria: LED, contemporary or transitional in style and prefer no "balls" or "cones" types of bar lamps. Ran across the lighted mirrors at a shop over the weekend and wonder if we should consider doing that instead in the master bathroom over a double vanity.

Any recommendations on brands, sizes, cool versus warm, etc. for lighted mirrors? And yes, we want LED because we don't want the hassle of trying to change the light bulb in a few years.

How many lumins will your fixture put out? I just did 2 bathrooms over that last 3 years.

In one bathroom the light is great and my lumins = 3000 for my 6.5x9 foot room, with a nice sized window and whitish decor. Even at night it is nice and bright.

In the other bathroom that is about 8x9.5 feet I have 6400 lumins that I calculate and it is a little dimmer than the other BR. The room is a bit darker with walnut trim and doors, so that might have something to do with it.

I would go for light other than the type of light if you can. The vanity light isn't on all that much during the day, but you will want bright light for makeup and shaving.

To clarify the last paragraph. I would try to get the lumins I need, rather then only looking at the type of light. Because the vanity light isn't on but a few minutes a day, and bright light at the vanity is a must.

Our bathroom is 7 x 10 (but with very low ceiling) and has 3 light fixtures - 2 over the vanity and one over the shower. We calculated that we needed 3,500 lumens and it has worked out great (light colors, no window)

Wow this stuff is confusing. So online I see bathrooms listed as needing anywhere from 56 lumen per sq ft to 80 lumen per sq. ft. (if my sources are correct). The room is 52 sq ft which means 2912 - 4160 lumen for the room. Currently we have 2 standard GE BR30 flood lights in the room which have an output of ~700 lumen each or 1400 total. Maybe we just don't like bright light, but we think the 1400 lumen in there now is plenty. The LED recessed bulbs I am looking at are about 320 - 400 lumen. I am just worried that if we use the calculations above that will be way too much light. I don't want my contractor to install this many recessed lights only to find that we need sunglasses to enter our bathroom. Not looking for a sleek modern design but actually just the opposite (traditional bathroom with sconces). Was thinking of going with LED because we want to be ahead of the curve and not find ourselves 2 years down the road with outdated traditional bulbs when everything is LED and us needing to replace dimmer switches, etc. Can anyone recommend a 3" shower (wet rated) IC recessed light that we can use LED bulbs in? Not having much luck. The ones I found appear to be with an integrated bulb and I don't like the color of the bulb or they are not IC or wet rated. I may just need to switch to 4" if I can't find anything. Or for that fact give up on LED all together.

If you use small aperture led lamps, you may be able to do away with the housing as the entire device is self contained inside the fixture. As I have remodelled our bathrooms I have added more lights to them. I like to be able to light up a bathroom all the way from very dim to very bright. I have used a combination of sconces, recessed lights and decorative pendants/chandeliers, all on dimmers. Need to find a spider or clean ... everything on at full power. Taking a relaxing shower late at night ... just the recessed lights in the shower, dimmed all the way down. I like having options and flexibility in my spaces.

Those will work but your best advice will come from the electrician you are working with , recessed lighting is exactly taht it does not drop down from the ceiling but the cans have to be the right ones for the material in the ceiling. As for the can size I like no more than 4”

Certain LED mirrors have built in defoggers which is great in a bathroom and with some you can use dimmers. Also others have a clock and Bluetooth technology in the mirror. Copper-free mirror prevents black edge corrosion/desilvering. Compare the warranties between the companies you are considering.
