need help with soil erosion

We recently had numerous trees removed from our very steep sandy hill behind our midwest cottage as they were rotting/ falling. We planted rye grass and installed silt fences as a temporary fix until we can decide the best way to landscape the area. We have had 3 unusually heavy torrential rain falls in the past few weeks so the hill became an avalanche of sand with approx. 6-9 inches piled up around the cottage on either side and washing onto the driveway. [we have a 7 ft tall cement retaining wall right behind the cottage]. Would appreciate any suggestions on the best way to attack our hill-terracing, retaining walls, best type of vegetation for this type of terrain, etc. We have contacted our local soil conservation dept. but unfortunately they cannot assist us for several weeks. Thank you for any advice/suggestions..
