All 20 birthdays so far of my daughters her name was spelled wrong. I write it down I ask them to highlight it and make a notation and its still wrong. Her name is spelled Amiee every year they spell it Aimee...a few years ago they kindly offered to fix it...they carefully removed the pink Aimee rewrote it Aimee...again...I laughed till there were tears. I wasn't upset I thought it was hilarious, ended up getting the poor flustered girl working to laugh also..I ended up getting the cake free so I tipped the girl ten bucks half the cost of the cake. WIN WIN.

Teaches me right putting 3 vowels together. LOL

Mamapinky -- your story indicates why they should do more than just write down what you say -- I think the CUSTOMER should write it out in block lettering.

Unusual names and unusual spellings will often get mangled, orally and in writing. It's to be expected.

Martha I did stand there quite a few times when it was wrote down, it was written correctly on paper just not on the cake...but honestly anyone looking at amiee is not going to realize..lol. but your right customer should write it in block but than again many order over the phone.

mamapinky -- I ordered in person -- she wrote it down but didn't let me look at it. NOW, I would ask -- that would have eliminated the problem, I assume!

Good catch! I'm glad it all worked out, but I bet your vicar would have had a good laugh from the misspell if he had seen it.

I think people just get going in auto-pilot and forget to stop and double check. But, as mamapinky pointed out, even when correcting an error the error was repeated!

LOL I love it...had that problem with a BD Cake once. I bet your Vicar would have laughed. My Priest would have laughed and talked about it forever. LOL

Uptown Gal -- Oh, I told everyone at church about it today . . . and we did get a good laugh! And Wal Mart was thankful, I am sure, that I didn't take a picture of it . . . because I would have posted it on Facebook! (I kept standing there while I was waiting telling management that "Gee, I forgot to take a picture of it, how silly of me" and they're thinking "thank heaven she did not take a picture of it"!

Have a look over at Cake Wrecks- this happens a lot! I think the winner so far is "Happy Falkersatherhood" (It was supposed to say "Happy Fatherhood [names of two men]"). The cake that started it off said something like "Farewell Suzanne Underneat [sic] that We will miss you".

When I read the title, I thought to myself........I don't think I've seen any posts by Bicar. lol Some letters (due to sound) such as b, p, v seem to be confused in names more than others.

Anyhow, that is a cute story.
