Have you delved into the owner's manual for your mower? In the manual, the Protection Loop (part 141940) seems to be indicated as an "either/or" type item in the hour meter circuit. So, it may be that either the tractor has an hour meter, or it has the Protection Loop. I see no correlation at all between the Protection loop and the ammeter. Does the fuse blow when the key switch is in both operating positions (RUN + LIGHTS and RUN - NO LIGHT)? This problem you describe (suddenly blowing fuses) has appeared in the forum in the past, but if I recall correctly, there were reasons other than a protection loop component involved in those failures. Watching the video you linked to made smile when the guy walked from the Kohler powered tractor over to the Briggs powered tractor and pointed to "a diode" used on that tractor. The diode he pointed out on the Briggs is the OEM Briggs rectifying diode for the Briggs 3 amp charging system, no relation to anything regarding a protection loop. And looking at the owner's manual for your tractor, I see that it has the Kohler 15 amp alternator charging system. I then referred to the Kohler service manual and the 15 amp system used on CV 16's has a combo rectifier/voltage regulator instead of having any separate diodes, or in other words.......the diodes are "built into" the regulator module. So, if I was trying to find the culprit, I would be checking out the key switch first to determine if it had suffered an internal failure that is allowing the Battery Positive feed circuit to short to ground inside the switch. The key switch is comprised of both battery hot circuits and is also equipped with a grounding circuit. I have seen numerous cases of key switches failing internally with the symptoms you report. If it was me doing the testing, I would pull the multi wire connector loose from the key switch and use a jumper wire to jump from the battery hot terminal (RED wire that is hot) in the connector (marked B on the switch) over to terminal A1 in the connector. Making that jump duplicates the action of turning the key to the run position. If you are able to jump between the B wire and the A1 wire without the fuse blowing......replace the key switch. Well, here I am at Day 5... Not being a big gardener by nature, this stage is a major project, and boy, is my lower back ever telling me about it! I have a "photo album" going, for anyone wanting to see how non-gardeners tackle projects they are clueless about. The link is at the bottom. Day 1 was just clearing the 6-8" of mulch off the old bed. Day 2 was pulling up the weed-barrier fabric, and starting to break up the rock solid dirt underneath. My spade was very slow going, so I watered it for a bit, and used a garden pitchfork to break it up. Tiny baby cutworms and garden centipedes abound in the dirt. YUCK! Day 3 was off to Lowe's for soaker hose, black plastic mulch, topsoil, and steer manure to make "clean soil" areas within my mounds. Day 4 saw the Beloved Hubby Unit (BHU) take a half day off from work to help my poor sore back out. He got the first long mound shaped, and the 3 center row mounds started. My seeds arrived today, so I carefully nicked them on the round end, and am soaking them in water for 24 hours. I've read that some people soak them in tea, but since I only have green tea macha, and some Lipton's Instant Diet Peach tea, I figured I'll just stick with plain ol' water...The seeds had a packet of 3 Sugar Baby melon seed as the pollenator stock, so I will have a few of them, too. I wonder what the successful germination rate is for these Everglade Hybrids...I'll find out. Day 5 is basically a lazy day for me. My poor back is saying it needs a break, or else. I'm going to be planting the now-soaking seeds in Jiffy-7 posts, the disk things you soak in water, that expand into little growing lumps. I'll be putting those into slightly larger peat pots, which will then be put into amended soil in the center of my mounds. The lip of the peat pots will help deter the damn cutworms, hopefully. I'll be putting cut plastic milk jugs around those to deter the little nasties a bit more... While I envy gardeners who know what they are doing, I gotta admit the excitement of challenging something so (for me) out of the ordinary is very invigorating. Half the fun, I think, is the envisioning/fantasizing of a garden full of round, black, bowling balls. Even if I only end up with a handful of tiny black softballs, they will hopefully be nice and sweet! Question: I will have soaker hoses on both sides of the mound rows, 1" under the soil and black plastic mulch. How often should I water, and for how long? I thought daily for about 15 minutes in the morning, since the plastic will help keep the water from evaporating, but is that too much? It's only about a 10'x10' square, which will have 13 melon plants (oops, 14, Park sent me 11 Everglades instead of 10), IF they all germinate. I don't want to drown the poor things before they get a chance to be attacked by all the other things watermelons are susceptible to. I very seldom have dreams but boy when I do... I can't top Cindy's though - LOL I used to have a still picture in my mind of my DD walking by me going to my room while I was in my parents bed. He was always carrying a bucket full of water and some cleaner. I know what it comes from - if any of you read my peanut and peanut butter post from earlier, you'll know that it was when I had scarlett fever as a child. Whenever I was VERY worried about something that would happen. When I turned 28, it suddenly stopped - CRAZY. The worst dream I had was super scary - I was dreaming that someone was stealing our car, right outside our apt. window. It turns out, I wasn't dreaming. I must have heard them. It was during the time when thieves were stealing spare tires out of cars. After that or right before (can't remember exactly) they stopped putting full-size tires in cars because of the cost of rubber. I woke up from the dream and thought - my then DH hadn't gotten home from work. He worked the post office late night and had mandatory OT. I fell back to sleep with the same dream. I woke up again - it was 5am then, and DH walked in the door right after I woke up. He told me that he had gotten home earlier but was outside talking to the police an a neighbor because someone had broken into both of our cars to steal the spare tires. I asked him when he got home. It was when I woke up the first time. He just didnt' come inside. That was really scarey.
