Need to figure out or design 'style'
Comments (16)No, I'm not sure about paint or stain on the shakes, but I live in a shake sided house and I love stain on them. We started out with semi transparent stain (but it was a woodsy, tree trunk kind of color) and eventually, as the house aged, had to move into a solid color stain. It's just much easier maintenance on shakes than paint, because it doesn't peel. But I just searched for that house again and it shows it being built with what I think are prefinished shake siding panels. There are no pics of it with the shakes a natural color, just that color was already on them and none of the other painting or staining was done, so I think they came that way. Is there a reason you wouldn't color the shakes the same as the siding? Wish some kind soul would photoshop it both ways so you could see. If you're interested in seeing that, you might start a new thread asking for photoshop help. Some here are great about doing it....See MoreCan you help me figure out what type of professional I need to consult
Comments (30)as far as I understood they repair while they mitigate..I suppose different crews at work, but one can't just remediate without replacing whatever's damaged. one needs to get estimates though-what's happenning, where, what it entails..it is overwhelming, we also spent couple months just being in shock and drinking wine, even though ours didn't present any safety issues unless being disturbed. Then one takes a deep breath and starts calling.. and sources for leaks should be all taken care of, no question I'd start with a mold guy and a GC..to put some picture together insulate the house..drywall comes out for that..you might be surprized at the state of black paper too..we patched ours, overall was not bad.. or else would be easier to take the house down..asbestos-we had to remediate it 'cause was everywhere..but yes, now the house' s insulated)) and we're in Southern CA, no snow-but makes sense for a house to be insulated. roof-was still fine yet we did have to change lots of stuff there since was at the end of its cycle. and we didn't have leaks, mold, etc nothing structural too. and wiring was fine. still..life experience I could easily live without lol but hey..everything learned in comparison. I had this phrase I'd be telling myself "Nobody shoots yet? okay then". I got it in my head to automatic level. It popped up even when I didn't need it. Like a broken record. Yet it helped. In order to do stuff one needs to keep himself functional..)) as for Craigslist etc don't worry..half of our place is craigslisted, etsied, ebayed, blahblah. One of the best affordable ways to create, with time, a cozy and meaningful place for your family. So as to that part-a day will arrive and you'd be, like, wow, all the stories I have in our house....See MoreHelp! Can't figure out design layout for long, narrow living room!
Comments (12)Is this space intended to be used as a dining room as well, or is there a separate dining room. I also assume the door will be the main point on entry. If the door is main entry and this space is just a living room then I would place an open book case to serve as a landing pad. Other corner across for door is other location. I would place TV console on wall same side as door. Float the sofa directly across from the TV and use the are behind as your walkway. should be room for a chair or two 90 degrees from sofa....See MoreHelp! Comments (9)Amanda, I am Neha from Styldod. Like all the others who have commented, I'd recommend a new couch for this space. The one you have is eating away a lot of space. Your options for furniture placement are rather limited. With 4 kids, no amount of storage is enough. A storage bench by the door and an end table with storage could help with clutter. I'd also recommend an ottoman as a coffee table so you can use it as seating if required. The shelf above the couch can be removed and you could make a gallery wall with paintings and pictures rather than having them hang everywhere. The images below are estimated to scale for your room based on the photos you shared, but it is very important that you share accurate measurements of your room. In this second design, I suggest a console at the entrance where a couple of low stools/ ottomans can be stored when not in use. You could do away with the kids' table and use these ottomans as seating for them. Also, a tall bookcase may be useful in a small space like this. Open cube storage is a great idea when you have kids running around. I would keep that nice armchair in the corner and would try to maximize the storage areas, so your kids have more room to play. Let me know if this helps. You can edit the 3D build I made to create your designs in interactive 3D here. you can view your designs in photo-real 3D here....See Moregininmn
