I Finally Figured Out My Decorating Style - It's 'Sentimental'
Comments (17)Aw, I love all these posts! I also agree and do think it is a wonderful and strengthening style. I have the corner cupboard and dough trough my g-g-grandfather made, along with the frakturs for his and his future wife's births/baptisms (Taufscheine-birth and baptismal certificates). Also, several pieces of art from my grandfather and grandmother and lots of miscellaneous stuff. Every time I sit in one of the recovered wing chairs, I think of family and there is another very high-backed wing chair in need of recovering that belonged to one of my grandfathers- it was the place he always sat when we were at his home. We always had to shake his hand when we left (he insisted on a good firm shake) at which point he would slip us a dollar. It is now in the library and the pink (!) upholstery doesn't bother me a bit. Wonder if that is why I can't seem to decide what to do with it. It does bring me joy to see these items scattered around the house. Mixed in with all my own stuff and even modern pieces, our home makes me smile. Guess we are all softies, huh? Not too bad! Great topic and perfect title for a decorating style!...See Morefiguring out designer's fees; need to resolve
Comments (13)Meg, imo, you really need to move away from this designer. If nothing else, this is causing you a great deal of increased stress. That takes a lot of your time and energy, too. I'd just finish up whatever is hanging and not involve her in other issues. While moving on, you may stumble upon someone else better suited to help you with things. Where you just click. As far as charges, I think it's ridiculous to charge for general contacts. Design help in emails, I think, is another story. And the per email thing is a racket. Fixing problems -- well, there are always problems to be resolved and the world just doesn't turn perfectly or as expected. That's part of a designer's job and expertise for sale -- to get it done and know how to handle the problems. So, depending, one can't put it all on the designer (to be perfect, have a crystal ball, and to have everyone else be perfect too). That's just a scapegoat for hire and unfair, imo. Now if it's just negligence and carelessness at your expense, that's another story, too. Gee, did you just send her to LA and Mehico??? Not a bad deal....See MoreI need some help figuring out how to lay out this kitchen
Comments (66)If you use lisa_a's with 2 entrances to the pantry it may just vent itself easily as I'd imagine the pocket entry door to it from the garage may stay open or ajar frequently. You could possibly fit it in the bump back to match the entrance stairs. Fridges in garages are pretty common around here but we have more issues with freezing temps than overly hot. Otherwise I'd put it in that spot in the garage where the writing says small appliances for inside the kitchen. That's not far of a walk at all....See MoreNeed help figuring out the right kitchen faucet
Comments (3)You need to look at the spec sheets of each faucet and look at what the reach (how far forward it extends) of the spout is. First thing is to know what the reach is on the faucet you have now. Then look at other faucets to see which ones have more reach.Generally that design of the old faucet usually has more reach then a lot of goosenecks, but you can find goosenecks that have decent reach as well. It may also help to look at one with a spout with less height above the counter. There are huge variations in reach and spout height even among faucets of similar design and style. Just start looking at a hole bunch of four hole faucet options and compare spec sheets....See MoreAnnette Holbrook(z7a)
