Tyler & Chamblee info please
Comments (5)Hi - Tyler has loads of fun things! Esp. this time of year. And the Azalea Trail is going on now - do search for "Tyler Azalea Trail" and it will show you photos of what things look like now. Blue Moon Gardens is a must see [plants, roses, display gardens, gift shop]....the town of Edom is charming [good resturant there], and you can do Hand Nursery on the way. The Municipal Rose Garden is probably not in bloom now but there will be so much other fun stuff you will have a full day. Hand Nursery Blue Moon Gardens town of Edom To get to Hand Nursery and Blue Moon.......you get on the Loop and go to Hwy. 64 [this is also the road to Canton, the once a month flea market fest!!] - coming from Chamblees, you will turn right. I cant remember how many miles - 6-8 - but Hand Nursery will be on the right [it is sort of down a little hill, elevation wise, and you can see 3 big greenhouses]. David Austin Roses office is on the left hand side, right before you get to Hand's. [order first, then pick up there, no display gardens, no walk ins]. Then right up from Hand Nursery, you will see a sign that says "Edom" on the right. Turn left there [only one road, so easy to see]. Go about 6 miles and Blue Moon Gardens is on the left. Fabulous display gardens and every unusual plant you can imagine and a fabulous gift shop in a cute cute redone farmhouse. Then.......go on in to the little town of Edom - cute place to eat, Potters Brown with beautiful handmade pottery and other cute things.....The icing on the cake is Mercados Mexican Resturant, on the Loop. Divine! The Arbor Gate near Conroe is having Rose Day March 28, the Houston Rose Society rose show is April 18, their garden tour is April 19......with you living that close, you really should join - $12/year for gazette and you get 10% off at several nurseries including Teas, and for Rose Week in February at Southwest Fertilizer [where I get my Mills Magic Rose Mix] it is 15% off. Oh, almost forgot Jordan's Plant Farm and the cute wholesale nurseries in New Summerfield.....this is off Hwy. 69 right at Jacksonville. Jordans has a fantastic gift shop and beautiful plants. If you need directions, let me know. Judith...See MoreVisiting Rose Gardens in England
Comments (24)I can't believe it's been that long either! Kate, I'm very sorry that I'll miss your visit. I hope we get to meet one of these times. Patricia e, Sangerhausen sounds like a wonderful trip too! I hope you have a great time. Jon, Infamous, eh? I'll try to behave this time. I don't have an itinerary yet. I'll have only five days to look around so I'm not sure what I can fit in. I'll take loads of photos and report!...See MoreRose Gardens in London
Comments (0)My mother & I will be in London Oct. 24- 30. I know there won't be much blooming at that time, but we would love to visit some rose gardens. I thought I read somewhere there was the worlds largest rose garden somewhere in London? Where are some rose gardens to visit in London?...See MoreWhat's Going On With Columbus (OH) Park of Roses?
Comments (8)I noticed the bathroom situation which can be a deal-breaker for me. Such a shame to do it permanently. I read online they do get a lot of volunteers for fall pruning, but I don't know their other cultural practices. It's pretty clear the pruners don't make it into the Earthkind section as so much was growing in the paths. Maybe the plants look "new" because they were newer varieties with many of the same and they prune a lot? Jeffcat often posted pics from there; I may compare them someday. The beds looked pretty well-mulched to me, but I have no comparison to many prior years. I wish I lived c be there all the time. I do have one negative that has nothing to do with the plants and if I hadn't been going to Peter Schneider's Open House, I wouldn't have made the trek to Columbus on its own. I originally was going to Chicago to see their rose garden. When I called there, the lady actually went over to the garden and called me back from there to let me know what was in bloom!!!! When I called CPoRs and asked what was blooming, the man said,"roses", without a bit of irony. When I asked if they had passed peak, he said, " The roses in my yard are blooming, so I assume these are too." (This was the person I was directed to who was meant to know!) When I explained I have a two hour drive, he indicated that was personal problem and there was no one else to ask! So, with that kind of interest in the garden it's not surprising the standard has dropped from what you've experienced prior. For me, it was still a wonderful experience and I'll go again next year, if not in the Fall. P.S. and OT: As a newbie I'd love to hear what roses grow well and healthy for you Ohioans. We have more humidity and different soil where I am, but similar rainfall and general temps. I zone up to avoid winter kill....See More
