Ideal Foam for Leather Sofa Cushions

I am replacing the foam cushion inserts in my gorgeous but 16 year old leather sofa. Does anyone know the ideal density and IDL ratings for high-end leather sofa cushions? The foam is 7" thick and my first attempt at replacing the foam left my cushions much too firm. I've had four spine surgeries and am desperate for soft yet supportive seating. Down lacks the resilience needed to sit comfortably so I'm using foam with Dacron only. Attempt #1 was an HR foam with a density of either 2.6 or 3.2 and an IDL of 24. Today's cushions are becoming increasing complex with manufacturers even using several types of foam in a single cushion. My aching self appreciates your kindness--I am desperate. Thx!!!!
