Spring-down cushions...what is your experience?
Comments (3)shoppes1, thank you for the explanation. My sofa will have the 8-way hand knotted spring deck. It's a Stickley sofa. I just worry that the spring-down cushions may be too soft for me and it will contribute to my lower back pain. These spring-down cushions did feel more comfortable than the standard cushions in the store, though. I have the standard cushions on my sofa at home, and they have flattened out and are not comfortable to sit on, so I hate them. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the spring-down cushions will work out for me. Stickley offers an extra firm version of their standard foam cushion (no springs), but they didn't have one of those cushions to try out in the store, so I passed on that type of cushion....See MoreAnyone with H&M sofa that does not like the down-filled cushions?
Comments (12)johnxyz, here are a few worth looking at and some tips: barileatherfurniture.com cascobayfurniture.com clubfurniture.com restorationhardware.com leathergroups.com Most of those are all online stores I believe, Restoration Hardware has stores all over though. RH is probably the most expensive out of those, but they have good quality from what I have seen/read. I shopped around for about 6-7 months before I bought from Bari Furniture. I got a 4 peice set for just under $3k, it was 8 way hand tied, down blend seats, hardwood frame, and really nice leather. It was in their clearance section, seems like an amazing deal, so I definitely think it is worth it to shop around a lot at as many places as you can. My best advice is to shop around a lot, sign up for email lists or newsletters on the online sites (they often give out coupons), ask for price matches if possible, and pay attention to what is in the clearance sections....See MoreMassoud sofa - should I get down cushions?
Comments (13)Get the down! I have a Massoud sofa that I purchased in 1997. It had 3 unattached seat and back cushions with chenille upholstery. So comfortable. After pretty hard use the down in the seat cushions began to show age. In 2013, I made the drastic mistake of trying to replace the down cushions. The upholsterer misunderstood and replaced the down cushions with foam. I was beyond mortified. Because of the space limitations in the living room of my current home I have just now placed an order for a loveseat with down cushions. The back cushions of my current sofa are absolutely perfect to this day. I also bought a matching chair in 1997 at the same time I bought the sofa. It also had down cushions and they are still both in very very very good shape. Get the down!...See MoreDown Sofa Cushions
Comments (9)i am in love with our spring down cushion on a stanford chair and a half we've had for over 15 years. in that time not one feather has escaped -and the sit and comfort is magnificent. there is simply no finer quality. that said, if stanford isn't making the cushion, i'd have nothing to do with down. i have just gotten rid of two all down seat cushions from my lee sofas. they were purchased brand new and moved into our new build in august. i have tried since then to love them, but i had to face reality. no one in the family would sit in the living room since the sofas were so uncomfortable. the down would need to be "fluffed" after every single use -which was no easy task, since they basically felt more like giant cement blocks instead of feathers. the down was coming through the "protective" cover and up through the upholstery. the entire house looked as if a flock of geese had taken up residence in our home. feathers everywhere, all the time. i am thankful to be rid of them. i asked lee to replace with spring fiber cushions and they are so much better. definitely not anything near the comfort of the stanford, but i didn't expect they would be. the stanford chair cost basically the same as the two sofas. a very different animal altogether. so. that said, i don't trust down to just any manufacturer. since you're talking about seat cushions only, i'm assuming you will have them made by a local place. i would visit and test out everything they make. if you can't sit in it, don't buy it. i do need replacement cushions for a hancock and moore sofa we will have reupholstered. i'd like to get fiber wrapped spring cushions for it as well. but it depends on who will be making them. the only thing i know for sure -as mentioned above, no down ever again, unless it's from stanford, period. good luck!...See MoreRelated Professionals
