Matching laundry room door knob hardware in kitchen?

I'm adding a laundry room off my kitchen, so there will be a door that leads into the laundry room from the kitchen.

Question.

1. Clear glass or frosted glass? Seems like frosted glass is better so it still lets in light but hides the mess in the laundry room.

2. all doors in my house have oil-rubbed bronze door knobs, but the kitchen has silver knobs on cabinets. Does that mean we still have a oil-rubbed door knob in kitchen laundry room door, or get a silver one to match cabinets?

I would say keep the flow of the kitchen the same, silver to match cabinet hardware.

I would get frosted glass. There are a lot of ideas on Pinterest for the frosted panel. I think I would do the oil rubbed bronze on the knob but it is just a matter of preference.

FWIW, and possibly unfortunately, I agree with your friend. The short moment when the door is open isn't sufficient to justify matching the satin nickle inside; and IMHO, metals within eyeball range should be at least of similar color. One sees (even if not consciously studies) the exterior lights and exterior knobs as a decor unit, and upon departing, the room's interior knobs (whether cabinet or several doors) are a different unit. I realize the SET of mix/match knobs looks strange while it's in your hand, but honestly, once installed, I don't think anyone ever stands at the door's edge in order to eyeball the interior and exterior knobs at the same time. I suspect you'd have to work hard to name any m/m sets in your present world, and yet there are likely to be many (especially on bathroom doors).

Personally, I like the black. Not just because it'll match, but I think it looks good against your cabinets. That said, there is nothing wrong with mixing - especially black and ORB. In my kitchen, we have burnished, aged copper fixtures, but for the hardware I went with the brighter copper, and it looks fine. I just went through this in the bath. Finally decided on brushed nickel so at least the faucet and light fixtures would match. Yes, I've been accused of being "matchy", lol.

This type of question comes up a lot. You can search and find out what others were told. It seems it is just a matter of taste... everyone is different. I am in the OCD camp where everything has to match. Thus, my house is ORB EVERYWHERE. (It is a new build, so... it wasn't hard to achieve.) I remember being a kid and walking thru houses...... when the metal finishes didn't match, it really bothered me. I have no idea where I got that preference (our kitchen growing up was nothing spectacular....) :) I suppose it is up to you and your taste.... do you want everything to match? does it bother you when they don't match?

Remember of course that this isn't a permanent irrevocable change. If anyone wants to turn your house into a museum, they will have to change whatever you put in anyway and it won't be hard. Knobs are like wall paint. They aren't permanent. (I admit I looked high and low--and ended very low--to find knobs to match my original small brass 50s mushroom knobs. But I like them!)

I have all kinds of hardware in my old house. I gave up. But what I did do when I redid my kitchen, is use a black iron Emtek handle on the kitchen side and a silver handle on the other side to matche that room. I was describing that set up to a coworker several years ago and her response was that it was very English to do that. Lol, I wouldn't know. But she has traveled a lot.

The hinges are black to matche the kitchen and door handle on the other side, looks good when the door is open. Thefree standing cabinet has black knobs and hinges. The rear of the knobs are a gray steel. The fixtures are chrome. IMO the cool black, cool antiqued steel, and cool chrome all work together. If I did it over I might have used the black for both sides of the door, but I love that silver handle.
