Book publishing

I did some looking online and could not really see a decent answer to my question.

Here is the set up: I just got a book from the library. It was published in 1992. Silent Prey by John Sandford was the 4th in his series of Lucas Davenport fiction books. This year, his 27th in the series will be published! The book I got from the library is a paperback copy in its 35th printing!

That is a lot of printings. How many copies might a publisher go with once a book has shown to sell well? A now-established author, with a constant protagonist would lead one to believe that optimism is correct. Publish 150,000? The 5th printing sold out, as did the 10th and 25th. Or, do you go with 600,000? Does the publisher increase the volume each time, with the hope that it won't have to keep going back to press?

This is not about how much the author makes. My query is how many copies does a publisher decide to print whenever it, once again, needs to republish a successful book.
