Kalanchoe Tomentosa (Panda Plant) stem issues
Comments (14)Hi Mighty Metis and Spapa, Hope bruce is doing great again (not the best picture - its neighbour is a stone rose I'm keeping there to get a big bigger before repotting) I'm writing because I think I'm heading towards a similar situation with my panda. A break-off branch was given to me recently by an acquaintance, I planted it just before summer, it really transformed around 3 weeks later (spreading its leaves, growing very fast) but now I see the lower stem getting darker, greyish and loosing density, it looks like its drying out. I presume the roots are also affected by rot possibly. I certainly planted it into unsuitable soil for succulents, the weather went from very hot to very dry constantly and I also planted it into a terracotta pot (I think it retains too much moisture with the wrong soil mix). I'm watering every three days once the top soil dries out in a hot and humid room. If you guys can see this post, I'd much appreciate a knowledgeable glance and comment, as I'm not sure what's happening here....See MoreKalanchoe tomentosa spots
Comments (3)I haven't used any kind of spray. I guess it could be something that happened before I brought it home, but many of the spots are new. I've had the plant a couple of months. I was thinking it looks like something munched on it too. But I'm not interested in feeding any more critters!...See MorePanda plant (Kalanchoe tomentosa) floppy?
Comments (21)Thanks everyone for your input! There's lots of articles out there about cactus soil, and I went with what I thought would work. I'll be switching it up based on everyone's comments. If anyone is curious about the pot, I just use it as a regular planter with lots of gravel & perlite at the bottom for drainage. It seemed to work for the first cactus I put in there (whose still happy with his home!). Thanks again!...See MoreHelp for my kalanchoe luciae!
Comments (8)reb No misting...there is some misting that could work (I do not mist any succulents) - some ppl mist leaves they are propagating. My opinion is that plants should not be kept wet, just the soil around them. So do not mist, keeping leaves constantly wet isn't advisable. Succulents should be watered thoroughly when needed, and mix should dry up almost totally before next watering. They store plenty of moisture inside their leaves and stems....See Morelatcherlucy15
