Snout house vine dilemma
Comments (8)I've got a chain-link fence really close to the house on the east side, 150'. Previous owner planted evergreen honeysuckle which is doing well, very fragrant and the hummingbirds love it, plus other birds live in it. Clematis armandii is there too, doesn't like the heat, wants more shade, have it bungee-corded in a canopy over walk, is starting to flower now, white fragrant. Doubt it will ever grow big there because too hot. Other kinds of clematis there too, doing well. Also trumpet vine, good in late summer. Neighbor had the most gorgeous prolific wisteria (planted years ago by another owner) against another chainlink fence, but last fall they dug a huge trench right in front of it and severed its roots. The murderous brutes! Wisteria just needs to be trimmed. It's so beautiful. Does really well here. I've got a lot of star jasmine. A previously established bush is thriving. My little ones (10) are barely alive since the last 2 winter freezes died them down to the roots. Maybe if we get a mild winter they'll get established enough to thrive? All these growing on chainlink fence (150' X 75' perimeter). Last fall planted a whole bunch of vines from forestfarm, will see how they do. Have a deciduous hydrangea vine which is pretty but small, slow-growing, and doesn't give the coverage I need for privacy. I'm thinking of doing a super no-no and planting English Ivy to finally get a green wall. Wild songbirds really flit and flutter and hang out in mature climbing vines. As soon as I determine what will grow well in my yard and cover the chainlink, I plan to cover it all with vines for looks and birds....See MoreLandscaping to make snout house less noticeable.
Comments (7)Can you retake front of house picture from a closer distance ... on the other side of the ditch from where we're standing now? Line up with the front door and take a panorama that includes the garage and the fence at the right side of the house as backgrounds. Then, separately, stand in the drive way and take a shot of space beyond the left corner of the garage....See MoreNeed help with a modern twist to exterior Snout House
Comments (21)Some great ideas here but if you've just moved in you probably have a long list of projects. For a quick fix if time and budget don't allow for all this right now, paint the garage door a dark gray, and add dark gray/black squares in the loose stones. Paint window trim dark if you can. Paint the front door a MCM colour, and paint the screen the same colour if you have to keep it for now. See if you can remove the grids from your window. Add a hedge of grasses across the front, and maybe along the path too. Remove the wreath and window box. Big house numbers, maybe even painted very large on the garage door in a MCM style font....See MoreCurb appeal for plain snout house
Comments (11)I do too. you could do a board and batten siding and paint it black. and then do the wood slat around the garage door and the front door. just imagine this board and batten (instead of you current siding), garage doors like these, w/the gooseneck lights and then bring in the horizontal wood slats. btw, if you like the stone look, here's that black/gold slate (ledgerstone) I was talking about. you could do vertical slat wood too; similar style to yours. another idea I like this garage door for your house. w/the black board and batten, this dark gray reclaimed wood around the garage is another option sorry if I overloaded you w/pics...See Morecpartist
