What a lovely view! I like the new sofa location. My question is this, can you move the bookcase to the other side of the fireplace? As it sits now, everything is on one side of the room and it feels lopsided to me, or is that where the new chairs will sit? Of course, curtains would help with that, too, but I don't know how you can get enough panels stacked to balance the width of the windows. I like the changes so far.

Hubby is a genius! I liked it the other way, too. I had the exact same thought as anniecat about moving the bookcase to the other side so it doesn't look like the ship tilted and everything slid to one side. :-)

Those chairs are really pretty; can you buy them on approval and try them in your room? Where did you imagine they would be placed?

I hope some window covering specialists weigh in on what to do with your windows. Can't quite see how draperies would work. I was looking online for solutions to the large wall space above the windows and thought maybe something like this would work. If you mounted them totally above the windows (but probably not at the ceiling, I think that's too much space), so the lower edge just covers the upper trim. It would make the windows look a lot taller and not interfere at all with that wonderful view.

I think if you paint the room and lighten up the wood trim on the windows you won't need anything but some more furniture and art. I love the view.

Thank you annie, ya ya gal and olychick - it is a good point about the bookcase. I block it out in my mind because I know I want to replace it. DH got it and I dont like it! :)

I love the look of those shades olychick. do you think they are non functioning so I would need to have the blinds too? it gets super bright at times with sunrise and you need something or you are even blinded in the kitchen!

I like either of your bookcase choices...I'd hate to recommend Ikea over real furniture (lol) but the light color might be nice in your room.

I don't know enough about window coverings to tell if those are functioning or not. But, if it were me, I'd get non functioning because they would be less expensive and you could keep them perfectly aligned like that, then I'd mount a solar roller shade hidden at the top of the window frame and just pull those down when needed. Plus, you can see out with a solar shade; it won't block your view, just the intensity of the sun.

Actually, if it were me, I'd mount a couple of exterior roller sun shades above the windows outside and lower them with a remote. I did that in my dining room where I have no window coverings but the sun in the summer seems to stream in just when we'd sit down, blinding my guests. I totally love it! Olychick are you in a cold area? do the outside rollershades function in the winter? I think we had another thread discussing those, I need to do a search. I think you are right, non functioning would be simpler and then something simple to pull down.

Thanks Ingrid - I don't think of my sofa as modern, but I guess it is? I was thinking of chairs that would be easier for older guests to sit in as opposed to the kind you kind of sink and and flop about with.

We put the leather chair in the corner, that is good for TV, and then we have the two corners of the sofa, they are OK too. We dont really watch a lot of TV in here despite the huge TV! there is a playroom with a tv for the kids, and DH watches/listens to the news in the morning and I watch a show or two at night sometimes. on the weekends we may watch a movie.

I can go sit in them on wednesday. the bidding is expected to be $100 for the pair, so I figured it would work for awhile anyway :) but I dont want to get the wrong thing for sure even if it is cheap.

Boop, I'm in the PNW, so winters aren't severe. We have below freezing weather and snow (some winters more than others) for a few weeks out of the year. I don't use mine in the winter, because the sun is lower in the sky and doesn't shine through that window. Yes, I mention this option fairly often as I'm so pleased with it, so I know some people have rejected it as not working in cold climates, but I don't know if that's valid.
