What color to paint room with batchelder fireplace?
Comments (4)Paste your link directly into the "Optional Link URL" field in the below the "Message" box and give it a title in the "Name of the Link" field. (Funny, second batchelder I've encountered today. An ad for the listing of the day in an L.A. real estate guide has a Batchelder reference in a Los Feliz home.) I like the existing trim color, BTW. However, since you don't, how do you feel about some version of terra cotta? That appears to be the range of some of the more highly colored hues in your fireplace and would warm things up without introducing a color that's not already there. How bold do you want to go? Personally, I love Farrow and Ball Red Earth, but that's probably deeper than you want. Dutch Pink is an interesting, paler option. You may want to consider embracing that yellow/green northern light instead of fighting it; consider one of the green- tinted creamy off-whites like Bone or Fawn. They may end up looking like intentional pale greens that are stone-like enough to coordinate with your tiles. Many of us have learned that we can't fight Mother Nature, er, northern green light. I don't think a bright white would be a great idea in there. Here is a link that might be useful: mulan47's link...See MoreWhat should I paint this living room fireplace?
Comments (46)Getting lots of comments on the built-in....think 1970s built-in...it needed to go. The bottom cabinets were about 2 feet deep, and took up too much of that wall, plus didn't allow for a nice accent chair. Of course we would've assumed that they had built the fireplace properly instead of not finishing the stone around. I would much prefer wood floors, but DH doesn't want hard surfaces everywhere...I know the wood would hold up better long term and be better for resale.. I think I am going to have him put up a wood piece on the bad side. Eventually we might do some nice smaller scale built ins...but the other built in needed to go before flooring. I will make a mantle box probably with a nice corbel on the bottom on each side. The fireplace cover definitely needs to go. I do like the idea of painting the inside of the fireplace a matte black...and I can look for a different "fire" for inside the fireplace. I will find a nice picture or mirror for above the fireplace, and decorate the mantle ledge. Hopefully with a nice paint color and the rest of the room decorated, the fireplace will be nice. Thank you everyone for your replies. Beverly-is your first photo and the one next to it a before and after? I would love a link to that if you have it...I do like the grayish green color they painted the mantle and the corbels under the mantle. Thanks!...See MoreAsymetrical Fireplace- How to Decorate
Comments (23)Ok I found a couple on Apartment therapy. Not leather, but they fit the bill for era. This first one is so much like the one my folks had when I was a kid. With the corner section like it is there's just so much you can do with this three piece set. One of my favorite ways Mom used them was with the corner section in one corner of the room with a corner two tier square table in its place between the other two sections in the opposite corner. Of course there was more furniture in the room too. This one will fit the look too. The link below will take you to the above sofas and a third one (center of group) that is also wonderful because the one section can be used at either side of the larger section or they both can be used alone. Awesome design! Now if you could just find something like this in leather! Gorgeous! Here is a link that might be useful: Apartment Therapy MidCentury style sofas...See MoreFireplace Ideas?
Comments (34)I didn't even notice the step down. I don't like the sound of of chipping off the rock. If that gets messed up it will be hard to fix. Maybe you can snug up the new wood floors as close as you can to the rocks and then fill the voids with black or dark cement/grout mixed with pebbles? I did that on my hearth with the grout between sliced pebble tiles and it looked great....See Morewritersblock (9b/10a)
