Late June blooms in Nashville

I wish I had more time to enjoy my daylilies, but my mom had surgery today for one of her complications and her general condition does not seem to be improving. Here are my last round of photos for awhile.

Bullfrog Kisses on rebloom - The rebloom scape is twice as tall at the origianal, but still nearly 10 inches short of the registration height of 34 inches.

Flash of Mischief with one flower doubling - it is supposed to be double.

One of my cats broke the first round of scapes on Sweeten Creek, so it's nice to have three rebloom scapes now.

Mantis - Armed to the Teeth is only 22 inches tall here this season. It photographs better than it looks in person. The edge looks more of a dirty cream here - not a cream white - and the flowers are small. It has a tan base, so the red shade isn't one that truly appeals to me. I'll hybridize with it for a couple of years, and then it will move on. It's registered as a dormant, but it most definitely is not. It kept its foliage all winter here.

Al beautiful, as always. bullfrog Kisses is my favorite. I am so sorry your mother is having such a difficult time and that your bloom year has been such a difficult one with the deer and your mom's health. I will be praying for her.

Beautiful as usual! I especially like Armed to the Teeth and Stenciled Infusion. The Color of Wonderful is a lovely clump.

Ellie - Hope you get rebloom on your RICTER. It's been a champion rebloomer here. I got rebloom on every fan this time. The flower on rebloom is much nicer than the first time around. The color is deeper, there's no splotchiness, and it even has a gold edge. I've had RICTER three years and have never seen it show a gold edge before. Everyone else - The eye on BEB is a great one because of the color and because it's so big. Most of the daylily is made up of eye. Glad you liked it. Debra

I definitely would wait until its a little bit older, but definitely try it outside, they are definitely one of the hardiest palms but a big problem is too much moisture so I will probably put a plastic bowl over mine during the winter. Thanks Keith! I dont give my oleander any major protection. Last winter I just protected it about 4-5 nights when temperatures were below 20F, but the winter before I kept it protected much of the winter since it was plain cold outside. I protect it like my palms, some lights, a frost cloth, and a garbage bin. It worked well when it was younger, but last year I was only able to give it a frost cloth on cold nights since it was too big for the garbage bin. They are easy to protect since you can tie it up and make it very narrow, I think they are easier to protect than most palms. They look really messed up coming out of their protection, but all the leaves pop back up with a little sun. -Alex

LOL Brandon. Why do you think I'm hear asking you all? ;D I can't remember either. I've had to cheat and look at pictures I took. Chris, thanks I hadn't even thought of those. If we do change the date of the tour I wanted to be able to give a list to our members soon so they could plan ahead and maybe get some things in the ground before next spring.

I agree. The Color of Wonderful is indeed wonderful. And liking that Stenciled Infusion and Bullfrog Kisses. Will miss your photos but family always comes first. Hoping for better news on your mom when you next report.

I like that stenciled infusion with it's eye pattern and pencil thin Cerise edging. The Color of Wonderful is great as usual, and I always liked your pictures of Last Snowflake. Such a nice form....Lucky you on Sweeten Creek rebloom scapes. Mine is bloomed out, and so far no new scapes. Last year though, it did rebloom, so fingers crossed.........Did all your mother's problems stem from that garden injury? I'm so sorry about her continuing health crisis. I sure hope your mom's health turns around soon, she has been really having a bad time of it. Beautiful daylilies!

Maryl - Yes, all my mother's problems can be traced to the garden fall. Because of her existing health problems - history of strokes, heart valve replacement, early stages of kidney failure - the fall, the resulting infection, and the antibiotics caused many other problems. Her stubbornness is also part of the chain of cause and effects. She keeps pulling out her feeding tube, IV and other monitoring devices at night. Because of that she had to be restrained. She injured her wrist working her way out of one of the hand restraints, and that led to her surgery yesterday. She still is unable to swallow, and now speech therapy has even taken away her ice chips. She was very mentally alert until all this happened. Now there are days when she doesn't know where she is or what is happening to her.

Armed to the Teeth looks like a very nice Polston. Thirty inches? I'm Gonna Love You Through It is vivid! So sad to hear about your mother. Reminds me of the stroke my long-time friend experienced two years ago. Not being able to swallow certainly sounds like a stroke symptom.

Gorgeous blooms from your garden. It's hard to choose a favorite. The Color of Wonderful, Armed to the Teeth, Bullfrog Kisses, and Flash of Mischief are among my favorites. I will continue to keep your mom and family in my thoughts.

So sorry to hear about your mother's continuing health problems, hope recovery comes in time. I like whites so August Frost and Last Snowflake are winners for me. I looked up I'm Gonna Love You Through It--how do you pick the daylilies you buy? Are you only wanting those to hybridize with or just because they appeal to you? I ask this because there are so many on the market, just wonder how to sort through all of them and find just what you want. It's easy for me, I have to stick to the cheapies :) and I am not a serious hybridizer. I should have one new seedling blooming tomorrow and I will post it when it happens, but I doubt it will be anything out of the ordinary.

Avedon - I buy what appeals to me. I rationalize most of my purchases as being for my hybridizing hobby. When I bought I'm Gonna Love Your Through It, I thought I would cross it with some diploid UFs. But in three years none of my crosses with it have taken.
