Well...I guess it depends. It depends on what you will place in the aiire in the way of furnishings and equipment. If almost nothing, and your health (and that of other users) is good and strong, spiral stairs might be a workable solution. On the other hand if you see a significant amount of furnishings (lparticularly large furnishings) and equipment; if your knees and hips are weak and painful; if small children will have access, then I would think spiral stairs are a negative. As for space requirements, keep in mind that a spiral stair with 3'-0' clear treads will be wider than 6'-0", due to the center supporting pole, and the external continuous handrail. The opening will need to have at least a couple of inches of clearance beyond the outside dimensions of the stair itself. Standard stairs, of one type or another, probably will be serviceable and useable over a longer period, if you intend to stay in the house for an extended period.

Look at the sleeve of the stairs column. Does it look like it was put together like this photo of an ugly stair? The wood treadmill might be screwed on from underneath. Each stair might be just pieces dropped onto the top of the column. If so, you could take off the handrail and then disassemble it. I guarantee it would he a huge pain. I would be tempted to sand as us then stain everything stair related the darkest black solid stain I could find.  It will at least fade into "stair" and not look like you tried to match the new flooring but missed.

Hello. I’m embarking on painting my black cast iron spiral staircase a cream colour, can anyone help me with correct treatment/paint to use. I’ve sanded it to just remove any chips etc but not removed the black paint fully and there’s no rust as it’s indoor. Thanks!

I wouldn't touch it. Not all wood tones need to match. And painting it and gel stain wouldn't make it match anyway. And gel stain can just turn into muck. They put gel stain on the first floor of this house to sell it. For the next 9 years until we refinished the floors, it turned any cloth we used to clean it with maroon.
