Wedding update...
... and of course a question or two. :-)
We've got most things checked off our to-do list. Our wedding rings are here, invitations are being printed this week to be mailed at the end of July, we are close to settling on our vows, and have picked a reading for a close friend to do. We've even got our first dance song ( his choice, "you are the sunshine of my life") Still have to make arrangements for the classical violinist/cellist for the ceremony and cocktail hour, and there's that pesky issue of make up.
Now the question part: I picked up my dress today after the final fitting. The woman who does it is a seamstress and costume designer with a degree from FIT. Suffice it to say she knows her stuff. I asked her what jewelry I should wear and she had some ideas. None of which I own. (which basically means she vetoed pearls). She thought something simple to complement the V-neck but not take away from the ornate dress design. And small dangly earrings. I wear diamond studs 99% of the time. But I'm open to suggestions. You guys have been so helpful, if you have any suggestions, please send them my way.
As a refresher, here is the hair comb I'm going to wear and a close-up of the dress. The hair comb is silver, even though it skews gold a bit. But the pearls are ivory, not white my hair will be pulled to one side and loosely curled. It's about shoulder length .

No weddings this summer, but I needed a dress for an awards ceremony at my conference (I became recognized as a Fellow in my professional organization) and dinner. I went to the largest location of local dept store since they have a giant special occasion dress section figuring *something* had to work. I found this Ann Klein dress that is very figure flattering--though I normally have trouble with sheath styles, and I am not at the size I would like to be. I did not feel either overdressed or under-dressed. Plus, It is a knit. Then I went upstairs and tried on some shapewear with it. I felt as good as I could. Comments (32)Thank you everyone for your great ideas and practical suggestions. I will speak to a florist in the next week or so and get an idea of what is available in October. As far as the dress goes, there is a good chance that I will be able to find something relatively inexpensive through a friend of mine who owns a dress shop. Any money I saved, will go towards flying in those expensive peonies. When I told my guy that I was leaning towards pennies, he smiled and said he didn't like the autumn pallet. It was to "kitschy " I asked him why he didn't say anything, and he said it was because it seemed like I loved it. He's a keeper. Kmarchese, what are the chances that your daughter and I picked the same inn? Mine is also on the finger Lakes, but I doubt it's known as a small inn. Comments (19)Thanks Everyone! Daily update for you. The cake is ordered, appetizer trays done and catering finished. The bathroom is painted and a new mirror hung. Why do we wait until the last minute on these projects? The dining table is set for the bridal luncheon. Just a quiet one for a few of her dearest friends that will spend the day with us. I have decided to wear my everyday sand dollar necklace from DH. It's sentimental and I get lots of compliments. 6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoI like the dress with no necklace, but I think you could also accessorize it with a very simple pendant/locket/drop of some sort on a fine chain so that it doesn't fight with the dress.
