How do you keep your containers from blowing away?
Comments (23)I just figured out the easiest way to do mine. We have strong winds at times, but the house will shelter some of it. My half gallon jugs, I thought I'd cut the right length of twine or some nylon cord and tie easy loops in each end. Then I'll wrap the twine around all the jugs and use a twistie to secure the loops, tying them all together. May do another level of it in case it slips down, can run the twine through the handles of the jugs on the perimeter. I hope it will work. I can easily open it up to check plants more closely, read labels, or move the whole group, etc., and just twist them back together again. I guess I can just pick out any jug in the group, lift it up, inspect it, deal with anything needed, and just slip it back in again without untying. When I get to the pepsi bottles, I may do the same thing rather than try to stick them in a box or burn holes in something I'd rather not. As I start planting out, I can just shorten the twine and tie another loop at one end and twist together again. I'm just setting them on the sidewalk for now, hope they'll drain ok, probably better than they would have when I set them on the ground. The ground can get saturated from melting snow and cause the water in the jugs not to drain very well or maybe I'm wrong about that....See Morestay away from miracle grow !
Comments (26)Well, gee, I am sorry, I thought you were talking about FERTILIZER not bagged potting soil. Just my own 2 cents worth, which I am certain no one cares to hear but I am wicked so I am going to tell you anyway... I never use any brand of potting soil "as is" right out of the bag. I always mix in lots of extra perlite, some nice peat moss, and coarse sand. I got into this habit when I grew all my heliconias and etlingeras in pots, to keep them from getting too waterlogged and getting root death and croaking. Now I just use it that way all the time as a matter of course because it REALLY makes a good mix....See MoreStay away from Gurneys, Brecks and Springhill Nursery
Comments (37)They just lost a really good customer and showed how poor their organization and communication is. i would love to fix all that. Im sorry that happened, we need to be joyful about our flower orders. The company is NOT truly guaranteeing their goods; very foolish, especially if they check your buying account. I had a debate with Breck’s this morning. A sales packet offerred BOGO peonies for $19.99. Since then, the price has climbed up to $22.99. Im not worried about the few dollar differenve, however, that is fraudulent advertizimg and it should be on them. Try Home Depot, as the season wears on they have some teriffic bargains. Last year, half way through the season, all roses were 50% off. Best Best, K. 💪🏻...See MoreFellow sufferers of diverticulitis
Comments (14)I suffered with it for many years, and because I was a (relatively young) age, was advised to have surgery. If you keep having repeat infections, the chance of a rupture increases, which would cause havoc internally, and result in an emergency situation. No, I never got over an infection without antibiotics, and they took about a week for me to get over. I tried complete avoidance of all nuts/seeds for awhile; I kept having infections. Warning: Might be TMI ahead for some, LOL, turn away if you're easily offended :) Some interesting info I have gathered from the multiple doctors I have seen, including the 2 surgeons who removed 1 1/2 feet of my pocketed intestine: Every single one of them said (and some of these docs were at the Mayo Clinic) that the 'nut/seed' theory is an old wive's tale. They said what gets trapped in the pockets is just fecal matter, which can get very hard and sit there and fester until an infection begins. They all said EVERYONE should be taking fiber supplements daily, which would eliminate the majority of problems. They also said many people have multiple intestinal problems that may be aggravated by certain foods, and may help to trigger intestinal infections, in general. (I know I can eat only very small amounts of lettuce, or I will be in pain, before and after the surgery . . . just like my grandmother. It's not the same kind of pain as diverticulitis, nor does it cause an infection.) They also said that as we age, every one of us will wind up with some pockets. One last thing that always makes me laugh for some reason - I guess picturing them doing this: some of the docs said they've obviously studied the removed-pocketed-sections . . . and have never found a seed/nut/hull of any kind . . . Obviously, every situation is different, and I can only go by my own experience. Since my surgery 6 years ago, the only thing I'm careful about is lettuce, and I've never had a problem since. And every single day since, metamucil is part of my daily routine....See MoreRelated Professionals
