I need to get to a seed rack! I sent some out yesterday and now I feel slightly deprived. Sharing is fun, then you have room in the seed files for new ones! Besides, I need some more herbs for my window boxes.

My husband just shook his head the other day when I came in with a package filled with seeds. He said, "You need (psychological) help." LOL!

Last month I didn't participate in any seed swaps, so I'm suffering from withdrawal!

Nancy Drew, if you ever want to get rid of seeds so you can get more I will be happy to take them ;)

It's hopeless. I went to HD today for lighting and, of course, walked out with a pack of sunflower seeds. It's the OCD--I'm convinced.

I'm right there with ya... went to Lowes to get some stuff (not seeds) and stopped dead at the seed display. I have never seen so many seed packs in one place... managed to get out with just some black eyed susan vine, morning glories, and some carrots :)

I would probably pay just for the envelope with the lovely description and the sketch of the flowers!! At least you got the seeds too!

MM, there is hope. Look in the phone book for your local chapter of SA (Seeders Anonymous). Mine meets every Wed. in the church basement. The 10 step plan is tough but I think you can handle it.
1) No more than 100,000 seeds at any given time in your home.
2) No more than 100,000 seeds at any given time at work.
3) No secret stashes of seeds in the tool shed, at church taped to the bottom of a pew, at daycare in the cubby holes, at grannies house in the cookie jar or elsewhere.
4) Stay away from any place selling seeds. This means you basically stay home till your recovery is complete.
5) Put a note in the mailbox requesting the mail carrier to put any seed catalogues addressed to you or occupant in the neighbors mailbox. Don't do this in person, they might ask to see your jugs and things will go down hill from there.
6) No raiding the neighbors mail box.
7) Contact everyone you have sent extra or "bonus" seeds to during a trade and apologize for trying to drag them into your addiction.
8) No seed trade requests using an alias at GardenWeb or any other trading venue.
9) Promise to contact your SA sponsor during a crisis. Like someone posting about beautiful Mulberry Rose Nigella seeds and you don't have any!

10. Promise to attend meetings of SA regularly. (It is a great place to trade for new seeds;o)

I think if I bought a few packs of seeds my husband would think I had gone nuts.

Seeds racks are easy to walk by---it gets tougher to choose when you can buy bulk by grams or pounds. I went to a local nursery and was bummed out to find that Pagano Seeds has gone of business. Sigh. So I came home a dropped a bundle on seeds via mail and net--I sent my annual grant plea and letter to America the Beautiful Fund (you still have to pay a hunk) and I bought bulk maters from GourmetSeed, this is my second order from them this month. I really like their company, they have nice products, good prices and an excellent staff--they are my favorite site for bulk veggie seeds, they have smaller packets for home gardens too--but I can't find a better price on bulk. And they give you 5% off the order just for using their online catalogue. Sweet.

I just realized today that I only have ornamental okra. I guess I will be buying more seeds this weekend. I work at Lowes now so I pass that seed rack 20 times a day.

I got 8 new packs in the mail today, so managed to restrain myself to purchasing only 1 new pack from the Lowe's seed rack today (um, I have all the others...)

I have been very good. I have not bought any seeds since December. lol.....instead I bought more Dahlia tubers. lol.....

Last weekend, I went to HD for potting soil for my WSowing. I walked out with 8 bags of MG potting soil and .....drum roll....5 bags of Dhalias.....

Am I nuts?? I stored over 200 tubers last fall. They are still sitting in the attic and need to be potted up. It really is hopeless. Where am I going to plant them all????
And aren't people tightening up their budget?

I wonder if the White House folks will be collecting seeds from their garden? In addition to their veggies, they'll be planting zinnias, marigolds and nasturtiums. Maybe we can get them to join us in a Round Robin come fall ...

PV, that is a good question. They could hand out seed packets like they do the M&M's. Anyone seen the M&M's? they are neat. it is a small box with the president seal and his signature. We have some from Clinton when hubby was in the Navy.I think the plant packets would be so nice.

I think I may have lost my mind this time - I've order (from several catalogues)32 bareroot plants or bulbs & 54 packs of seeds, the craziest part is I already have...wait for it... 120 different packs at home that I didn't plant last year. Of course, I tell myself, it will be different this year - every seed is meeting dirt in 2009!!! Thank goodness I get home to the mailbox before hubby!

ah yes, and in came another package from Crosman's yesterday that I forgot about.

Sidenote: Talk about FAST shipping! I emailed them to confirm a shipping amount on 3/18, mailed the order either that day or Thursday (NH to NY), and my order was in my mailbox on Weds 3/25. I'll definitely use them more often- and they are inexpensive, too!!!

Some wonderful member sent me 40 packs (count 'em) of seeds today. I swooned and spent a few hours looking all these up, adding them to my inventory and filing them away in my seed box. I'm a very happy boy.

This obsession sort of reminds me of when I got into cooking years ago. I had to have every pot, pan, utensil imaginable. To this day, I have 5 sets of cookware (stainless steel, copper, anodized aluminum, cast iron, and porcelain-clad), not to mention three egg-separators. Like I separate eggs every day...

Oh, well, at least seeds are cheaper and take up less space.

Mary, Mary: If Michelle's jugs look anything like her arms, I'll take anything she wants to volunteer from her South Lawn. Perhaps I'll send her back a couple of my beets to taste test.

I saw a posting a while back that they carry T and M seeds and flew over to the one in Chelmsford MA. and they had none!

I guess they are independantly owned and dont carry the same merchandise.

I shop at the one on Rte 106 in Concord- Osborne's. They are listed as suppliers, but they took a LONG time to get the T&M racks in this year, and by then I had purchased the majority of my seeds (these little trips are just minor supplemental purchases ;) ) I think it was the middle of March before they actually had the floral/veggie display in. They got the herb display in probably early Feb, but the rest just lagged SO far behind. Last year they were one of the first, and had it in sometime in January. I got to a point where even though it's pretty close, it was just easier to pick up the phone to find out if the display had arrived yet.

Cole's gardens on Rte 4 also has T&M seeds.

Hi Ishare, it may be a bit far for you, but Russell's Nursery in Wayland has T & M seeds. They weren't cheap though.

I don't have enough seeds, but enough for now. I'm trying to be restrained - 65 containers so far, with maybe 50-75 more planned - warm season veggies, annuals, and grasses.

Don't want a repeat of last year - 158 WS containers (mostly perennials), 50 tree/shrub seedlings, 60 large pots in the pot ghetto (fall bargains), a Bluestone order, and hosting a Spring plant swap just about did me in. I was digging and planting and hauling, etc. for months!
