Comments (19)I love the Fred Miller kitchen with several colors (Ithink I counted 4 wood finishes plus a contrasting color range in that one photo just above the gallery sign). Notice how they use different counter heights and cabinet depths to give an unfitted feeling. Notice htat all the yellow pieces have wood trim elements and each color has different molding details, yet they all work together. And the ailses are wide enough to accomodate the changing depths without feeling cramped. Details like that ad the crown changes are what can make the difference betnween pulled together and interesting or just chopped up. You don't have to do all those different things, but you have to consider how the details fit together. My crown is white, but the only section of cabinets with it that isn't white is my blue wall, and I like the way it looks there. The same crown continues around the adjoing rooms as well, so it all flows. I don't think I'd like it if one were painted and the other was stained wood. You may be able to deal with that with the different cabinet heights. I think dark bases and lighter uppers is done more often, but I think I have seen it reversed. I can't think of any to search for to show you though. I like a contrasting island, but as some have pointed out, it has become a big trend lately and may look dated in years to come. If you do the island in a different color, change some of the details -- furniture end panels, feet, open shelves, door details, even your hardware. Mine has raised door panels while my cabinets are all recessed, and the molding has a little more detail. The wood is knotty and glazed while the cabinets are smooth paint with no glaze. The hardware is an old black finish, simple style that a balcksmith could have made while the cabinets have s brushed silver (not sure what it's supposed to be, but it looks softly weathered) in another style with some flourishing details. If your KD is good, they should be able to help you pull these details together. Have you seen photos of mixed finish kithens he has done? That might help you see how he puts things together and whether you like that. If not, search for more photos here and figure out what makes the differences you like. It's YOUR kitchen. Take the time to make it what you love. There is no one size fits all....See MoreNo trust left !!! 36 more days...hope they go fast !
Comments (29)No I am not at all upset with you and I have not even said he was a beast, and yes I have admitted this is childish without question. Unfortunately we got along great for the most part of the first 17 years so I do believe I know how to treat someone when I am in a relationship as he had a breif affair when we were married almost 6 years and we survived it and came out stronger. I do not feel that he deserves respect when he is disrespecting me. In life what goes around comes around, I would never normally behave in this way but I am truly hurt by all this and I guess lashing out without it causing a big scene. My sister in law is furious with his actions and can't believe the fact that I haven't freaked. I am unaware of your marital status but have re-read your first post and don't know too many hubby's who would say ok honey let's go to the computer, when they are hiding stuff. For instance my hubby had a conversation during his lunch on facebook with his (fake..my acct.)ex-fiance while texting lovey dovey crap to my cell. I have no problem letting him go if that is what he wants but why play both sides of the coin. I do plan on telling him again cause he obvisiously doesn't get it that I am fine with this. I have held so much in through this time that I have made many wrong decisions. I truly believed when he bought me my SUV in March that he did want this marriage and I would have wholeheartedly gave it my all but it only took 2 weeks for me to see that he wanted to be single at least on his facebook. Please do not think for a minute that I do not love this man...as I truly do but I can not continue with this hurt and therefore I need to be gone. Am I going about it properly no but I do have the right to treat him as I have been treated...I know 2 wrongs don't make a right....See MoreI've come full circle for paint - should have trusted my gut!
Comments (11)Mairin: Your kitchen is amazing! Have you posted any photos of your completed backsplash yet? Thank you so much for posting such good expansive shots of your RP walls. It looks a lot more tan on my screen, but I can tell that it is going to work great for me as my cabinets are almost as dark as yours and my granite is light (Blanco Romano). Based on the 14 x 8 panel I painted I tend to wonder if need to go a bit deeper in tone. I understand that most paint can be lightened as I've seen reference to 50% strength, but can the same thing be done to darken the paint? I was thinking perhaps just a 10% or 20% deepening. On the other hand once I get the full walls painted it may be just fine. I'll check out the decorator's white. Cloud White was also mentioned earlier but tends to be too yellow next to my horrible white/gray window frames that can't be changed out at this time, but BM lacey pearl might work well. raehelen: Cabot Trail reminds me of melted milk chocolate. The Edgecomb Gray which is next to the Revere Pewter on the swatch card has a bit more tan to it, but is still quite gray. It is lovely too, but I needed the cooler tone of the RP. In my spavce both tend to have a green cast in certain lights....See MoreKD and cabinet experts-help with cabinet issues
Comments (21)so all, i got an email from my kd today saying she submitted a letter to medallion to send decorative ends only for the cabs with the spots. i paid for 9 finished ends and that would cover 3. having decorative ends on some but not all is going to look terrible! so of course i emailed back that it would look odd and unfinished and that i would rather just replace the replacement cab and live with the spots on the other two cabs. i really am at a loss here as to why anyone would think 3 of 9 face cabs would be ok to add decorative ends and further i am really disappointed that medallion isn't more concerned about these finish issues. i can't be the only one! any advice? at this point i can't replace the base cabs since the granite is in but am i within my rights as a consumer to have the newest one replaced? i did let my kd know that would be more than happy to have a medallion rep come to my house and inspect the flaws. she didn't know if the rep wants to do that so it has not come up in their conversations/emails. thanks everyone!...See More- 6 years ago
