To answer you original question "Succulents dying, how can I save them?". The quick answer - you won't save them. Throw them away. If you really are interested in growing healthy plants, you have lots of work to do. It's a great hobby, but you can't go into it blindly. I will try and keep this as simple as I can, please don't take offense: - You should not be growing these plants until you have done at least a modicum of research, unless your intention is to only have them as temporary, short-lived decorative plants. These plants were doomed from the start. Poor pot selection, poor soil mix, inadequate light, inadequate air movement, inadequate temperature range, and an owner with a lack of information. I partially blame the retailer for selling an attractive but terribly ineffective mini-garden. - Succulents ARE NOT houseplants. They will not be healthy indoors without significant effort. What you may think are "healthy" plants are instead plants that are tolerant of abuse which can only put up with so much before they start to go downhill. Most succulents need fresh air and sunshine for at least a few months a year. Indoors year-round they are essentially being tortured. -"gnats" are fruit flies. They feed off of organics in the soil, like decomposing peat. Peat is probably the single worst ingredient for growing pot plants. -We have all been in the same position. We have all killed plants in the beginning. What defines success, IMO, is how you take it from there. /rant

Why is everyone so ready to state what is lacking in these trees and suggest products that may or may not help, infact, firther along an alreafy bad situation, with no knowledge of the kind of cultural care it was given before you saved it? Why not try an easy and practical approach first and give it the kind of good cultural practices it needs? Why not check the mix to make sure it is not inhibiting good root growth and function along with good nutritional uptake? Then, why not give it a good porous mix of it needs be? After that, why not a good well balanced fertilizer and a whole lot of warm sunshine? I'll bet this poor tree was missing one of these and it will respond quicker than you think as mine did. Thanks for the reply. I can't put standing water outside because the ratcoons and squirrels are already really troublesome, and I don't like the idea of leaving a drinking source for them in my yard. I was hoping the crowns could tolerate atmospheric exposure. I know the color of the flowers and the appearance of the fronds, but I don't have any pictures sadly because I never thought of doing so in all my years. Perhaps I should just give them all away to someone who can take proper care of them and just keep a small portion growing in an indoor vase until I can afford a larger home that can support a pond.

You need to get them growing properly first before thinking of what you do with them at a later stage. If you are new to this, best keep them individually potted as they are different types, you can always group pots in a container and cover rims with stones for a group look! Whether they will pull round remains to be seen as they look pretty damaged at the moment. You won't be able to buy a soil off the shelf, sadly no one sems to sell anything that resembles a good fast draining mix, that's why we need the separate ingredients to mix together. Gill
