Hey!

Those plants certainly don't look very good! I think you should plant them in individual pots, but make sure there is at least one drainage hole in the bottom. Also try to pick pots on the smaller side; succulents like that don't need that much room. Try to find some nice clay pots. Ceramic are okay, but unglazed are best.

I think overall your plants are suffering from overwatering. That soil simply cannot support succulent life without great extra effort. It is not always your fault, either! Even if you water very little, the soil will soak up almost all of it, and before you know it, the roots are rotted....

A good mix will consist of pumice, turface, lava rock, perlite, crushed granite, and maybe a bit of succulent soil. I do not know a specific mix, but when I have more time I will give some links. This kind of soil will drain superfast, and it will be nearly impossible to overwater.

When repotting, look for rotted roots, and if you find them, cut them off no questions asked. You might want to take pictures of what the roots look like just so we know. If a root is rotted, it will be discolored and squishy. Cut them back to healthy tissue. You might have to cut more than 90% of the root system, but if done properly, it will come back.

Propagation is where you cut off a stem or leaf, set it on the surface of the soil, and do not water, and eventually it will grow roots. I do not really think this will be suitable for this situation, though.

@rina They were just placed in there. They were also recently watered. And they were sitting in the sun in the container. Yes, I did try to loosen up the soil. I will now try getting new soil for them. I do believe this planter does have drainage holes. If it doesn't have many I will drill more holes in or use another planter.

@palmsandsnow Ok I will try the mix of soil you reconended. Do you know where I can get this soil? I will also cut of the rotted roots and try replanting them in sepperate pots. After I repot them what do you reconended I do with them? Should I keep them in a sunny or shaded spot? I'm guessing not to water them right away. Thanks for all the help so far. I'm new to owning succulents. They seem more fussy than regular plants! Haha!

You will want to check the above link for a soil mix.... I would do Al's gritty mix except maybe instead of 1:1:1, something like

30% turface

30% crushed granite

20% perlite

20% succulent soil

I think a mix like that should work just fine. The hard part is getting the ingredients. The perlite you could get online, or at a Home Depot. The crushed granite you can find as poultry grit. Turface can also be bought as floor dry which you can easily get from a Napa store, Advance Auto Parts, or Auto Zone. The succulent soil could be found at Home Depot.

A less tricky mix could be:

50% perlite

50% succulent soil

That would work fine, but maybe not quite as good as a nice gritty mix.

@palmsandsnow thank you for getting the above link to me and for the help with the soil. I will go out and get some tomorrow since most stores will be closed or closing by me. Should I transplant them tonight in sepperate pots with and soil I used before I would then transplant them into the new correct soil, or will they be okay for one more day? Thanks again for all your help.

I think it would save a hassle to just wait until tomorrow to do all the transplanting. Transplanting into the smaller containers tonight won't make a notable difference.

If using 20% soil and 30% turface I think that could be too water retentive. Turface holds quite a bit of water. For ppl that overwater (most do), I would rather increase perlite....JMO

Ok, and yes, I was going to pot them separately while transplanting them. Do you think they should stay that way if they make it. Or could I put them all in another pot together?

You need to get them growing properly first before thinking of what you do with them at a later stage. If you are new to this, best keep them individually potted as they are different types, you can always group pots in a container and cover rims with stones for a group look! Whether they will pull round remains to be seen as they look pretty damaged at the moment. You won't be able to buy a soil off the shelf, sadly no one sems to sell anything that resembles a good fast draining mix, that's why we need the separate ingredients to mix together.

Yes, I hope to get them growing properly again. I just like to think ahead :) I like the idea of putting them in a container and covering with stones! And yes I hope I can find some of the soils today.

I placed them all in individual pots with a 50/50 mix of succulent soil and perlite. What is the care for them now?
