New PB Houston, Information overload!,,
Comments (5)I believe you will find the 1.5 ft depth of the tanning ledge to be far too deep. I usually build mine at 6" - 9" of depth. 17" of water would be over anyone's head if lying or perhaps even sitting down. Too deep for small children. I would also switch to a variable speed pump. It will cost a bit more upfront, but reduced operating costs will quickly recapture the cost and to continue to provide savings. I am not sure how energy efficient the Tristar pumps are (I use Pentair), but they should be able to provide you with that data. Problem with a variable speed pump is that you would probably need to change from an Intermatic controller (old fashioned time clock- I still use them when cost is a big issue) to a computerized one. UltraPure is a good ozone system (don't let Mr. New Jersey dissuade you from this type of sanitation! Life is different apparently in Houston than New Jersey). The only problem with the Ultrapure is that the ozone is injected through the pump, which can cause the pump seal to fail. I am now using Ozone Joe's which bypasses the pump. Lastly, I don't think the Ultra pool cleaner has a very good reputation (it didn't when I used Hayward years ago). You might check on alternatives. I don't see a booster pump for the cleaner. It's hard to find a decent suction line cleaner that won't frustrate you to death from being slow and sluggish. I don't like automatic water fillers if you have an overflow line built in your pool. They operate like flush valves on a toilet and can get stuck. They are better and less expensive alternatives to Diamond Brite, although it is a good product. Use the savings for LED pool lights or a computerized controller....See MoreNew Pool Build In Keller TX - PB Choices
Comments (5)We used Seahorse Custom Pools. The entire process went great and I was especially impressed with how they paid more attention to "structural integrity" during our talks vs. just painting a pretty picture. We were swimming in 3.5 weeks after they broke ground. I have had issues with 2 pumps burning out and both times, I text the builder and he had a guy out the next day to change the pumps at no cost. 3.5 years later, I still on occasion call or text the builder and he responds immediately. Give them a call and ask for Bob Buchanan, tell him Greg from Benbrook referred you and he will work out a great deal for you. Bob was at Pulliam for 20 years before he moved to Seahorse. We were least impressed with Puryear out of the 5 builders we had out. As a comparison, Bob went out to the back yard, got on his belly to look at the ground, spent time crawling around looking at various things and then we talked about a pool. Puryear busted out a computer, talked about pools and never even asked to see the yard. They they asked how we are paying for it....See MoreIt's January 2021: What are you reading?
Comments (56)Eons ago,and almost certainly here, someone introduced me to the Literature Map website. If you type in the name of an author you enjoy, the screen pops up with other authors who write in a similar vein. It hasn't been perfect for recommendations, but it has occasionally introduced me to a new-to-me author that I've loved. https://www.literature-map.com/ I just finished Ann Patchett's The Dutch House and it was terrific. She has a gift for writing family dynamics. The narrative hopped around in time quite a bit, but I felt that by doing so, she added layers to the story as each segment helped to bring the main characters' lives more clearly into focus. It was a really good book, and one that I'd meant to read quite some time ago....See MoreAdvice please! Should I return my new PB sofa?
Comments (11)This sofa looks very deep front to back. I think the sliding off sensation is because it is so deep and it's leather, which is slippery. I bought three new sofas last year and noticed that a lot of sofas are too deep for my taste. I made sure to get ones that measured the same front to back as my old ones which I liked. People may have different preferences and it also depends on whether people will usually be using it sitting upright or reclining. So if you decide to return that one and get another, keep this in mind. I also prefer to get a sofa with three equally sized seat cushions so that they can be flipped and moved from end to end regularly which reduces wear. And finally, as the previous poster mentioned, all sofas will get softer over time....See More- 9 years ago
