Seedlings from the past couple of weeks
Comments (10)Thanks for your comments, everyone. Jan, The first unknown is not that huge, only about 7". But, if you're strapped for room You hit it right on the head. If a seedling shows a bloom exactly or mostly like another seedling from the same cross, I get rid of it. Two years ago I only planted a little less than 200 seedlings. This year I'm still struggling to get 700 seedlings in the ground. I think I've gone zonkers on dabbing pollen, so I'm taking a break from it this year. May even leave it for all of you ambitious folks, and just get back to purchasing more that I really want. Michelle, Yes, I thought the same about the darker lemon watermark (applique) on the yellow seedling. You're very sharp to catch that! Thanks Jean & Chris! Julia I don't have any kind of magic touch, it's all in the genes of the Dls. But I too, was pleased w/FD x JM6 and its rich color. Kathy, I will keep the last one for sure, and since I lost the parentage, I'll think of some cool (or hot) garden name for it. Nancy, Thanks, I will definitely keep the first one, and give it a special place in my gardens. Julie...See MoreSome photos from the past few weeks & Zeus
Comments (13)THANK YOU twixanddud, Nat, Nancy and Debra! Twixanddud, you will like Creepy Crawler. The blooms are big and bright and I just love that edge it has. Nat, it is strange how Lavender HT does so well for me here when I have heard from you and others that it isn't that great for them. I got mine from BlueRidge and it hit the ground running. Stellar performance year after year. And yes, mine is tall. Nancy, I love Winning Note too and I am surprised at how many blooms it pumps out each year. Got it from Maryott's. Debra, I figured you would love the bright pink of Desperate Housewives....and of course, Zeus! Celeste...See MoreSome blooms from the past week
Comments (13)Thanks everyone for the compliments! Daylily season is coming to a close in my garden, which makes me sad but also eager for next year to come. Only about half of the dl's I got this year bloomed, and I'm sure I'll order more over the winter whilst I sit here bored and need to spend money on some more plants...lol! So that only means more pictures to come next year. Looking forward to 2009 already! Karen...See MoreThese past two weeks . . . .
Comments (18)One of the things I got out of the conference was the effects of stress on the body. The one speaker Dr. Michael Roizen (the Real Age guy) said it should be up there with Tobacco as far as workplace health promotion is concerned, even before nutrition and physical activity. I had to introduce a speaker who teaches Mindfullness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) at Duke University, and I was very intrigued by her session. It was great to see there is a local class here. The one positive thing about the flu was that I *had* to stay home and rest. It is nice to finally be able to hug and kiss DH again. We are so glad we have another kitty. Coming home to a cat-less house would be even worse....See Moreavedon_gw
