One last decision - pull/knob height on tall pantry cab doors??
Comments (4)I have a pantry run in a hall just off the kitchen of stacked cabinets also. There are 4 doors top and bottom in 2 'pairs'. The lower are 56" and the uppers 22". I had also seen the 4 knobs clustered look but did not like it. Looking through photos I found one on a cabinet site where the lower doors had handles in the middle. http://www.canaancabinetry.com/gallery_7.php Since I was using handles on my drawers I tried it out by cutting out black construction paper knobs and handles, puttng tape rolls on the backs, then moving these "paper pulls" around my kitchen. Tried the all-knob look but liked the bigger handles on the long doors better (my pulls are 6.5"). So the pantry has knobs on top and pulls on the lower doors. Oh, my long doors also have a raised piece of wood panel across the middle like they are divided in two, so it lines up with the middle of that. Try playing with the paper dolls... I mean PULLS. It helps! :) Good luck!...See MoreHow much do you love your tall pantry cabinets?
Comments (8)When we redid our kitchen a couple of years ago, we desperately needed food storage space. We initially had a 24" deep by 24" wide base cabinet, countertop, and a 12" deep by 24" wide wall cabinet. It was next to the refrigerator and had a wall on the other side. We replaced it with a 24" wide by 24" deep tall pantry. Two shorter doors on the top and two taller doors on the rest of it, total of 8' high. It fits really nicely in the space and is much more usable than the base & wall cabinet combo. We absolutely LOVE the pantry cabinet, even though sometimes things get lost in the back. However, we should have (and are in the new house) gotten roll-outs so things won't get misplaced. But damn if that pantry doesn't hold a ton of stuff, in one place, and gives us fantastic storage. I refused to do the new kitchen without one, even though we're going to have a walk-in pantry there. The thing is, there are some items we just want to have handy in the kitchen, and the tall pantry is perfect for it. We also happen to store my big KA mixer on the bottom shelf of the pantry, as well as a big pasta pot, neither of which fit elsewhere in my small-ish kitchen. We knew the pantry was expensive (even without roll-out trays) before we bought it, but it's totally been worth it....See MoreWhere to put handles on Tall Pantry Cabinets?
Comments (11)We also put ours at 36" high, even though the knob doesn't line up with anything in particular on the door (they are a few inches higher than the paneling that intersects the middle of the pantry door). At first I worried they would seem as if they were placed there at random, but then I read on this forum that if you follow a rule, let's say 36" high on all pantry doors, then it will look right. As long as there is a rule or pattern, even if you've made it up yourself. Does that make sense? And actually I stressed over the placement, then had the contractor install the hardware when we were out of town. When we came back I didn't even notice that there was anything unusual about it. I agree that they should be where it's natural for you to reach....See MoreIssues with tall pantry cabinet doors?
Comments (24)oldbat2be - thank you and wow! I love your pantry!!! We are going to have a small walk-in pantry in the kitchen too and I was envisioning beautifully divided shelves like yours... I’ll definitely be referring back to your amazing progress pics as we plan out that space. The reach-in pantry in the niche will be for dried goods (with the walk-in being more for small appliances, equipment, and my baking supplies). I will definitely look into using real “door-doors” in the niche rather than being stuck with the limitations of cabinet doors. Our KD is actually a designer project-managing our entire first floor reno (not just the kitchen), so I had hoped she would’ve able to advise us on solutions like this, but I’m staying to realize she’s really kitchen-focused and I think is trying to sell us as much cabinetry as possible rather than looking at what the best solution for our needs might be. Sigh. Luckily, I have a very strong vision of what we want and am tireless at doing my own research, so I am confident I’ll be able to find just the right door solution for our niche. Thanks again!!...See MoreLisa
