Can I fix this kitchen backsplash?

We had new subway tile in white installed in our kitchen to match the white cabinets (kept old granite). Because we have a five inch granite backsplash it totally does not go and now we are going to remove it However that will leave our bottom tile with only 1 inch is there any way to fix it or any alternative to this issue?

Do you mean the size of the subways that you will use to replace the granite are not the same size as the granite back splash? If so, you could lay them the other direction; up and down, as opposed to whatever pattern you have now. One row like that will look OK. How about a close up picture of what you have now?

I don't care for the look of the white subway tiles with your granite but I don't live in your house so my opinion on that really doesn't matter. A subway that blends with your granite would look very nice and you wouldn't have to take the granite off. Either way, your wall behind either/both will be damaged.

Hi Chispa, House is a townhouse built in 1996, trying to modernize the look. As far as decorating style, I like modern/contemporary, nothing too funky. Something that would be cohesive with the rest of the kitchen, and bring the kitchen to life a little. It's very white right now.

Eam44, first, thank you for all your help; I really appreciate it. I do have an installer- my contractor selected him and we have been very pleased with all his work in the rest of the house. But I haven’t discussed this with him; I wanted to get things figured out first. I looked at all the pieces above- can’t believe you were able and willing to do this, thanks so much- and I have no idea which ones might be appropriate here. I am aware of the quarter round and it’s not my favorite. Not sure of any of the others. The profilo jolly seems the smallest and therefore possibly the most appealing. (I just showed my husband the painted edge of the tile and he didn’t find it at all objectionable).

Aside from the blistering and bubbling and dirtying and what not. I’d just remove it. There are many budget friendly blacksplashes we can go through. I don’t think you’ll be happy with paint aesthetically.

If you are removing the granite backsplash and replacing it with the white subway, use a 1" (or so) accent line at the bottom of the current white tile.

Leave the granite and remove the tile... two problems solved
